HOPE THIS HASN'T BEEN ADDRESSED ALREADY!

"As long as your house is locked"?

f:P:

Where does this BS keep coming from?

I was under the impression that leaving firearms accessable when unattended was a violation of storage? So if you live in a single person dwelling, and are not around, leaving your house unlocked is akin to leaving a safe unlocked with other non-PAL holders in your house?

Then again - that would be more applicable to restricted and non-restricted... since antiques can be held by anyone, I guess leaving them accessable to everyone is ok.

Antiques are not considered to be firearms unless used in the commission of a crime.
I think the " spirit " of the law allows that when not being transported antiques are the same as any other thing you own ie: you can leave it lying around if you want.
Years ago I was on a job at a dude ranch near Kamloops B.C. and in the bar they had on the wall a great Colt collection in enclosed boxes ... some really nice guns.
That was back in the 70's... it was legal then and I think it is legal now.

This is the only regulation I am aware of that attempts to control storage of antiques.

Why does the RCMP blatantly spread misinformation? The guy who just did the verifiers course is saying they taught it in the course this round... When I took the course there was no mention of storage. I just don't understand why the RCMP would lie...

Their are entities within the RCMP that have an agenda with regards to firearms in this country. They are not above spreading misinformation to further that agenda. This is a perfect example.

With regards to the "antique letters" why wouldn't they just put the regulations that pertain to antiques? What is to be gained by spreading vague misinformation?

My grandmother (long gone) had a sign above her phone in the kitchen that said "just tell the truth, there is less to remember. It's easier."

They aren't lying, they just aren't spelling it out for you.

They are correct that by law you do have to follow the regulations for antique firearm transport, storage, and dislplay. Have you looked in the regs and CC to see what that means? Sometimes what is not there is just as important as what is there.

It's not the RCMP mandate to explain the law to you. Their mandate is enforcement.

Bottom Line: know what the law actually says; it has been pasted into this thread several times. I've also printed out a copy and keep it with me because I do not expect a LEO to be so trusting as to take my word for it.
