Largest Muzzle Flash

So I picked up a Grizzly 8.5 and wanting to enjoy the fun. I'm assuming a 3" shell would create a larger muzzle flash than a 2 3/4?

Would a slug create a bigger muzzle flash? A high velocity shell?
 
Since Christmas raped my bank account I cant try it for myself, but the old Federal Classic 3" 1 1/4 oz slugs spit an empressive flame from an 18.5" bbl...I figure an 8.5" should be worse than an M44 firing surplus X54R. Do IT...and get pics :D
 
I found with my 12.5 " using birdshot made a muzzle flash about the sive of a grapefriut + or -. using slugs and it put on quite a good show. Nice big ball of fire.
I still want to get a chance to shoot it at dusk. Make it really stand out.
 
My 8.5 at night, no hair on my hands anymore....

If you're just up for the flash and don't mind what is coming out your barrel,and have reloading equipment...Take a shell,primer it and fill it right up with Goex ffg (pyrodex p might be a lesser substitude) and re-crimp it.
The " KABOOM " sets commercial fireworks to a silly state,and your muzzle blast...well,I only can speak for my 20" barrels:3 feet long,around 1 1/2 ft in largest diameter.Imagine what it will be on your short one!
Not for defence,not dangerous (maybe you can light the barbecue at short distance) but sure scares the s**t out of everybody that was expecting what a shotgun usually does :D
