So as I stated in another thread I took my Mosin sniper out for some fun. I fired 20 MFS (non-corrosive) rounds and that was that. I have yet to clean it, as I just haven't had the time to covert my apartment living room into a gun room during these busy holiday times. I was looking over the rifle (I do that from time to time while reading the forums :D ) and when I took a look trough the bore, I saw a weird dark line running along the bottom of the bore, but not perfectly straight from chamber to muzzle. It is not a shadow as when i turn the gun, the dark turns as well.

I couldn't take any decent pics of it (I only have an Iphone for pix...) so I just took a pic from the web and drew whit it sort of looks like.

Any ideas?

Did you ever saw the line when you have the rifle first? Without the right pic, its hard to tell but i'm pretty sure its nothing. Clean it and if still there, borrow a cam to take pics.:)

My suggestions is to go out and get a 30 caliber bore snake and a good aerosole cleaner (I use G96). When your done shooting at the range, give it a good spray with the cleaner. let it sit a couple of minutes, and run the snake throught a couple of times. Its a good short term solution until you can get to a thoughout cleaning. It's what I do with all of my stuff, and my buddy as well. (he uses corrosive in his SKS)

Take a plastic stir stick or something else pokey and run it perpendicular to the line and se if you can actually feel a ridge. Could just be some mouse poop or something.

The MSF ammo mas a consistency issue I noticed. The size of the fireball varies from shell to shell and I hand one so full that it left soot on the whole of the outside of the case.
Is it possible that an over charge could have split the barrel? Look very closely on the outside of the barrel for a continuation of this line.

A few of my Mosins get a dark line of shot residue in the area shown in your picture after firing. Comes right out with a cleaning. Happens with ANY ammo I put through them, perhaps something to do with the rifling?

Either way give it a good clean and check again.
