Any info on the official non-restricted ACR?

Thanks insightful. Price would be good. Do we think it will be closer to $2000 or $3000.

I would assume that it will have to be at least competitive with the XCR.

If it's through Gravel I would imagine it will be around $3,200 when available. I have heard anywhere from the end of Q1 2012 to the start of Q2 2012 - but this is just availability in the US. Realistically, I think we're looking at Q3 or even Q4 in Canada.

Yeah, we get it - you're not a fan...

No, actually you don't. I am a fan of the rifle. I'd love to own one. Having said that, I'm not a Fanboy so it's not a "Have at all cost" thing for me.

If I wanted that kind of an ass pounding, I'd just play for the other team. ;)

You'd love to own one only if it meets your expectations in terms of price. That makes you an unrealistic or hesitant fan, at best. To me the worth of a rifle isn't solely determined by price. It would be great if the ACR were $2,500... but then XCR owners wouldn't have anything to complain about with the ACR anymore.

You're right, I'm not a Fanboy, hesitant, unrealistic fan, or whatever the Hell you want to call it. I've said as much. There are a lot of rifles that will do exactly what the ACR will do, for a whole lot less. Including the XCR, the rifle you love to hate...;) I have no particular affection for one design or the other. Either it does what I want it to do or it doesn't. I don't try to get that emotionally involved in the purchase of firearms. lol. :p

I'm not dissing the rifle itself. We need not regurgitate the long established pricing issues associated with this platform. Suffice to say, the ACR has come in way over the anticipated price when it was first introdced years ago.

If you can afford it, good for you! I eagerly await seeing pictures of your new toy when (possibly never?) you've taken delivery.

Yes it has. I would welcome a price drop if only to see more ACRs in people's hands. The rifle that I really want (now) is the ACR-2, mainly because it's shed almost 2lbs and despite having a magnesium lower and aluminium handguard is probably the closest it's been to the Masada (at least in terms of expectations, anyway). Ah, ask and ye shall receive...

This is my factory ACR with 16" barrel. It sports an TA31RCO-M4CP ACOG on a LaRue LT-681 mount, a set of MBUS Gen2, the folding stock, standard polymer handguard and a pair of Lancer L5 magazines (I haven't gotten around to installing the Geissele SSA trigger yet).

Hmm...not according to published materials issued formerly from Magpul Industries. Have a look at page 15 of this document. The expected base retail price was anticipated to be $1,400 USD. That's a far cry from where we're at now, don't you think?

Nice rifle you have there. If it were mine, I probably wouldn't fire it. Considering these things are proverbial "hen's teeth" up here and the unpredictability of future import into Canada, I'd probably flip it down the road to make a few bucks. If you use it and break something, what's the probablity of ever getting it fixed? No rifle imports = No parts imports either.

No... I was agreeing, ie: "yes, the ACR come a long way". Thanks. I enjoy shooting it, though - and have enough "safe queens" as it is. This one was purchased with the sole intention of enjoying it. Well, if something breaks - it breaks. I understand Gravel has been really good with respect to any minor issues (fingers crossed).

At $3200 there is not enough value in this rifle to justify it. At $2200 it's in the ball park.
This rifle has no military contract, no history and no official calibre kits. It is 2lbs over weight. It requires a whole set of parts to make it into the rifle that most current owners wish it was right out of the box.
Blaxsun the only thing that magpul makes for this rifle you want replaced by a magnesium lower. It needs a new trigger as well.
You can hate on the XCR all you like but for $2350 it has this rifle beaten hands down at $3200.

Not to turn this into (another) XCR vs. ACR thread, but the XCR isn't exactly lightweight and hasn't been adopted by the military, either. Give the ACR a few years and I think it'll turn heads. But yes, I agree that it's more of a novelty than anything else at this point because a lot of the promised functionality (lighter weight, multiple length barrels and different caliber kits) hasn't materialized. Still, if you like the Magpul kool-aid (which I will admit I do) - it's hard to pass up. ;)

I never said the ACR has come a long way. I said, "Suffice to say, the ACR has come in way over the anticipated price when it was first introdced years ago.".

Glad to hear that you're enjoying your rifle for what it is meant to do. I don't care much for range queens either, I just sold a custom bolt action that I'd built and hadn't fired.

Hopefully, Gravel will continue its service support, however, I don't have a lot of faith in that company as per se.

Magnesium is used in a lot of stuff - my bike suspension fork is made of magnesium.

On the other hand, no one is going to shoot bullets and fragments at my bike either. The lower is pretty small but the EOD people may have a thing or two to say?

I do like the thought that I can shave off my lower to start a fire though.
