Just bought a Winchester SXP Defender 12ga. Fit and finish seem excellent, and it cycles as quickly and smoothly as my old 1300 Defender from 20 years ago :)

Only downsides - the pistol grip I have left over from my old 1300 doesn't fit, and the mag tube doesn't run the full length of the barrel like the old one did.

Looking for a Hogue pistol grip and a mag tube extension now - can't be longer than about 3.5-3.75" long, or it'll extend past the end of the barrel, so I'm guessing only a 1-shot extension would fit. Can't find one anywhere online - anyone know who makes these, if anybody? Will tube extensions designed for any other shotguns (ie older Win 1300's maybe) fit?

You can can feed it absolutely any ammo with no problems.
The stock feels great and fit and finish are excellent.:sniper:

Did you just pick that up from reliable at "The Legendary Sale of Awesomeness"

No, I was planning to, but the place was lined up down the block by the time I got there! I actually got a pretty decent deal at Italian :)

So far, I'm very happy with it. That's one of the things I liked about my old Defender - you could run anything through it! The factory stock's really nice, but if I can find a Hogue pistol grip for it, I'll be really happy :)

I checked that out last week and was very impressed for the price. The action is like butter :) Could not find a bad review on this shotgun anywhere. Hopefully more accessories come on line for it soon.

If I didn't get such a great deal on a 870 Tactical, I would have grabbed that for sure.

Congrats!

Winchester's "Speed Pump" system or whatever they call it now is legendary. Super fast & super smooth. I never understood the infatuation with the 870 after handling the Defenders. I own three of them (all 8 shot models) and I would never part with either of them.

Regards,

Agreed! I sold my original Defender to buy an 870, and have since owned a couple of 870s... the last of which is now for sale. The only thing I learned over the last couple of years was that I should never have sold the Winchester :)

I'm thinking about buying one. I don't care for the mag extension, so it seems to be just fine as it is for me. From the other hand I may go with the older 1300 instead. I just like the wood better.

Hey - due to some difficulties I bought the defender and it's been a great piece for a lot less than 20 years. Still quick and smooth too.

Let see, I met my future wife in 87 bought it in 90 so that's 2011 - 1990 = yikes 21 years???!!!!! I just bought it!!

When did Elvis die?

Finally got around to mounting a pistol grip on it - now the perfect hiking/truck gun!

Awsome!
I want to do some stuff to mine too.
Mind if I ask what kind of pistol grip that is?
Do you know if there are any other pistol grips/stocks/adapters that fit this shotgun?

Here are my defenders.

Nice guns! It's been my experience that there is very little aftermarket support for Defenders, particularly the newer ones - the old 1300 Defenders had at least a few stock options. I couldn't find a pistol grip for my gun, so I modified an 870 Hogue Tamer to fit. Still need to do a bit of filing on it to make it fit a bit better, but it's functional :)

I see em in plenty of shops, but what make was that pistol grip. I was under the impression that since they're we're only introduced what, maybe 3 years ago there wasn't much aftermarket gear yet. I'd love to hear things have caught up

Bought one, Love it! Cycles everything, bought the combo so I got both barrels, and can't wait to try it out in Alberta waterfowl season....
