220 swift

I have owned 4 or 5 of them and only had good experiences. Disregard everything you have read about them being hard to reload, this is simply not true. All that I have owned have shot very well, currently playing with a Remington 700VSSFII and it will often put 3 rounds into less than a quarter inch at 100 yards. I know, only 3 round groups, but this is a factory barrel.

:agree:

22-250 will do almost anything a swift can...but Swifts are just so ###y!

Key word being "almost"............ The 30-06 will almost do everything the 300 WinMag can as well.

I have an early 90's Ruger MKII with the 24" factory sporter weight bbl. in 220 Swift. The gun has been incredibly accurate, I love the caliber and it's one of the few guns I own that will never make it to the EE. :D

It's pretty rare to hear of an inaccurate Swift, they're the 308's of the hyper-velocity smallbores.

I thought barrel life on the swift was an issue?

No more of an issue than it is on a 22-250, the Weatherby's, the WSM's, etc. There was that talk when it was first introduced in 1935, but barrel steels have improved a great deal since then. While I wouldn't use it for hundreds of rounds at prairie dogs in an afternoon, it's fine with proper cooling and cleaning for the average shooter.

I love the 220 Swift. A chambering that always amazes!
I have managed to shoot a couple of Swift barrels out, but
it takes a lot more shooting than most would believe.
The first one was an original 26" Ruger 77V. It was a truly accurate rifle,
accurate enough to win turkey shoots [5-shot groups at 100 & 200 yards]
I first noticed accuracy starting to deteriorate around 26-2700 rounds, but it stayed sub-moa for another 1000 rounds. Then I rebarrelled it.
The second was a Shilen, and I got it with an unknown number of rounds fired.
Got pretty close to 2000 out of it before accuracy went south.
That being said, I take good care of my firearms, and do not shoot them "hot"
Buy & Enjoy!! IMR4064, H380, Vihtavuori N140 & RL 15 are your friends in the Swift
Regards, Eagleye.

Thanks everyone for the good info. I own a 222 rem 788 and evryone I coyote hunt with uses 22 250's, I need something bigger lol

I only had 1 swift, a Ruger. It shot great. I also had a # of 243s at the time. As it was to be a coyote gun I compared it to the 243. The difference is small. I went 243 but can not complain about anything the swift did. The swift does carry some attatude with it & most guys respect the ability. Reloading was no problem. Good luck.

:agree: as well. The one unusual thing you have to remember with the Swift is that it is semi-rimmed and when loading the magazine you have to put each successive round slightly ahead of the previous round to prevent that little rim from catching on the round below. You will get a jam otherwise. Other than that, like the other folks said, an awesome ###y cartridge. Ditto on the neck sizing only. Enjoy !
