What is the best way to go? Should I get my smith to do a trigger job on my existing trigger group (armalite m15) or should I buy a drop in trigger? If a drop in, which one do you recommend (that can be purchased in Canada)? I want something light and crisp. The purpose is basic target shooting and maybe CQB.

could do it yourself. Timney comes to mind, but there are tons of 2 stage triggers out there.

Timney ranges between $240. and $265. depending on model you want (regular trigger or skeletonized). They are like a well tuned 1911 trigger but in your AR. They also work perfectly in 9mm AR's as well. Every AR I have owned and presently own has gotten the Timney treatment.
Geissele triggers are also nice if you want to keep two stage feel/operation.
Jewel are beautiful but can be a PITA to install and set-up.
My vote goes to the Timney

very dumb question. I am using a Noveske AR. For Geissele Trigger should I use small pin or large pin? Also, between Hi-Speed Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR) trigger and Geissele Hi-Speed Service Rifle trigger which one should I choose. I use my AR for CQB match and service rifle match.

I would not go the smith way when it comes to AR15 triggers. Any of the Geissele, Timney, Jewell would be a huge improvement over the tricked stock one. Changing just the springs with JP would make a big difference. I use Geissele on my toy as Timney were not available at the time and Jewell is too much for me.

Small pin. Large pin is only for certain Colt guns.

Service Rifle has a heavier first stage in order to stay within the limit for overall minimum trigger weight in competition (check your rules on triggers). DMR is a pretty good trigger, one is riding in my SR-25 EMC at the moment.

Thanks for the help. Another newbie question. The trigger is unrelated to ammo type right? I can actually use a DMR of a 223 AR15. Am I correct?

The purpose is basic target shooting and maybe CQB.

What kind of basic target shooting? CQB, standard trigger is just fine, single stage is probably more suited to this. A lot of aftermarket triggers are two stage.

I run standard triggers in all my rifles and successfully shoot paper out to 500m no problem. If you're running a stock AR with non free float barrel a new trigger will be of little benefit, if you're running a 24" Krieger free float with 24x scope at a 1000m then spending $200 on a trigger would be a good upgrade.

Geisselle are arguably the most robust target triggers.

If you plan on shooting in Service Rifle competitions the trigger weight must be at least 5.5lbs, this puts most, if not all target triggers out of the running.
