Well it finally happened.

Czech surplus ammo and a popped primer jammed in the firing pin hole. The next 3 rounds FTF with manual cycling of the bolt.

I did have a Murray's pin installed.

Did it prevent a slam fire? Dunno. But it didn't slam fire and for that I am glad.

$40. Cheap insurance.

Standing by for the flames.:D

Yes depend of the year your sks was manufactured. Russian sks have spring loaded pin from 1949 to part 1951,after they used a simpler free floating pin.

After each outing, punch out the retaining pin in the bolt assembly and take apart. Clean and degrease with Zep citrus cleaner using a Qtip. Rinse with HOT water and let dry completely. Reassemble.

If you don't do this, you can also experience light primer strikes.

Do you really think that tiny spring will unstick a firing pin tunnel packed full of crap?. I am glad you are happy because really thats all that matters.

I clean my firearms well after every use with the exception of my 10/22. Thanks for checking.

I possibly did not make my post perfectly clear.

I had a popped primer. Not a fouled firing pin channel.

The popped primer jammed into the firing pin hole and would not allow the firing pin to slide forward and strike the primer on the next chambered round when the hammer struck the firing pin after squeezing the trigger.

The spring loaded Murrays FP MAY have prevented a slam fire as the FP might have been retracted by the spring after the round with the failed primer cycled the action. It may not have. Possibly a conventional FP would have been retracted sufficiently as well by whatever forces cause it to retract. Oh wait, there is nothing that causes a conventional FP to retract except the next chambered round it pushes into.

But it did not slam fire and for whatever reason that did not occur I am grateful.

Flame suit still on but now lined with Kevlar :D

not to be contrary but when the bolt slams backwards and hits the inside of the reciever would that not retract a free floating FP? assuming you have kept up the maintenance and the pin can rattle in the bolt.
