Rabbit hunting techniques?

But where is the fun in that?
I have a great time traipsing around the bush even if I don't get/see anything.
Lay on the ground and be Very Very Quiet, DO not shoot till you see the Whites of there EYES. THEY WILL COME

Not to bad for 1 1/2 hours at a friend's rural property.
Thank you Silverback & Trevj for the late afternoon hunt & pictures.
The three of us in a rough line, through thick forest produced this. We did have a relatively easy goat trail that we used to quietly walk along in the early evening and we usually walked away with one or two very easy kills per visit.
But the evil road making machines have now seized it for thier own needs!

I use two methods ...
Sneak attack - though generally just once the snow is down and the tracks are easier to tell where they might be.
and ...
the farm we hunt has brush piles scattered abotu int he back 40 ... so one guy climbs on top and watches in one direction, the other goes to the toher side ... and the guy on top starts jumping and smashing the pile as much as possible. Usually, if there's a bunny in there, he'll spook out.

That one thrashed around a bit, and didn't kick free from the spot he landed when he was hit.
It was a great afternoon. Got the first one while we were standing around discussing what we were gonna do, two of us both pretty much 'made' the bunny at the same time, sitting under some bush at about 15 or a bit more yards.
Had two that were sighted that got clear of us, and the last of the day, we were pretty sure, was one we had pushed along in front of us for about five minutes or more, that had held solid under a tree.
A good run, for under two hours!
Gotta gather the makin's for a slow cooker full of rabbit, then decide if it gets eaten as-is, or made into a couple pies.

Trevj uses his Ruger 10-22.
Silverback brought out his inherited Cooey Model 84 in 20 gauge.
Myself an Ithaca/SKB O/U also a 20 gauge.

Edit: I've already cooked and ate the one, meh, coated in seasoned flour & fried in olive oil.
I think Trevj's cooking method is superior by far!
At the very end of our hunt we flushed a ruffie, the other guys didn't hear it.
It's nice to know they are still around.

Well, three more snowshoehares today, for an afternoon in the same place. Just two of us this time, Trevj and myself. We forgot to take pictures, sorry.
The weather was darn near perfect, -6 & sunny when we started and no wind to speak of.
Snowfall virtually nothing compared to last year and averaging about 2 inches or so.

The next part is even more difficult: Put your favorite hunting knife between your teeth (because carrots ain't got no arms....) and lay on the ground in the rabbit patch and ACT like a carrot......
What a fcuking waste of time that was, couldn't swing my head fast enough to stab 'em when they nibbled on my nose!!!! You owe me 2hrs of my life back, I take EMT.
I'm taking the carrot suit back tomorrow.

Went out today for a few hours and got 5 more
Weather was pleasant at -5 and some light snow when I got there around 10AM, snow let off for a couple of hours around noon but started heavy again about 2PM. No wind to speak of and my new Elk Tracker boots kept my ever freezing feet TOASTY warm and dry.I missed on 2 or it would have been 7, one was too close and I think I shot over it's head and couldn't find it after that, the other was on my way home as it was getting a bit dark, it was all I could do to see him and try and get the sight on him......took 3 shots at him before hearing "CLICK" on the 4th shot and he buggered off just as I got the reloaded magazine back into the gun. I think the bullets may have been bouncing off branches as he was sitting behind some scrub, either that or I just plain missed....LOL
Of the 5, 2 had Tulerema so they went in a separate bag for Coyote bait.
I discovered today how much cleaner and how much more fun it is to headshot the buggers with my TOZ .22 Makes the gutting WAAAAY easier and no broken bones or bloodshot meat like I was getting with my 410.
Here are a couple of REALLY crappy cell phone pics as my P&S isn't working and I left my SLR at home. This is the 2nd set of 2 (I had skinned and gutted the other 2 before I thought of getting pics.) I really need to remember to pack my SLR in the truck again.
