A2 Rear sight
What if I told you that I found an AR sighting system that will fit every rifleman needs. With one zero procedure and 2 apertures you can do it all.
If you do CQB it will point easily and quickly enough and using the big 0-2 aperture, you can hit everything from 0 to 250 m assuming a trajectory max 2" above LOS and 3" below LOS.
If you want to shoot as far as 600 m the little 223 rem, the small flip-up aperture and a little bit of application of the basic principle will make you hit the target. You can use the numbers on the dial for the right range quick and still have the flexibility of MOA adjustment would you need/like it.
Talking of adjustment, the windage is adjustable with 0.5 MOA adjustment and it is easy to use the lines on top of the big aperture to remember how much you adjusted. To extend the accuracy at close range you can use the Santose method (IBSZ).
Did I forget about night shooting? It works in low light. It is also possible to use trijicon illuminated apertures and front post.
It is not new, but it is innovation. It is cheap, reliable, flexible, rugged and versatile. It is perfect for most healthy shooters. Some use it in high end competition (high power in usa). I like it, I am impressed by it. Even if I like ACOG and alike, I feel the A2 sight should be seen on many more rifles and not only ARs.

Training for pennies on the dollar. Unlimited capacity magazines. By far the best purchase for any AR15. 9000 rounds through mine now, no malfunctions in the past 4.5k, and the only real malfunctions that were not induced happened in the first 1.5k.

What you really need is a good instructor, a plain, clean rifle with a good sling and plenty of ammo.
Everything else is not necessary. All the add-ons are at best a slight advantage, but most of the time a liability.
Had the pleasure to attend a basic-rifle class as an assistant-instructor this year and it was really interesting too see what worked and what didn't.
It was a real eye opener. Forget about foregrips and AFG's, just remember the basics of shooting, which are:

We in North America have learned its more about the looks than the function. More time is spent discussion the gear than the mechanics of the sport, be its shooting, golf, fishing, driving, etc etc. When you first get a new car, the question is not how does it handle and brake, its how much did it cost? How many horses? How fast from zero to 60...... man I wish I had that......
Same with guns..... where did you get it?? How much did it cost...., what model.... how many in the mag????? any ad ons? not, how well does it feel when shooting????? or how well can you shoot it?
The most important has become the least important in the minds of many.
Accessories are just that....accessories. Were they necesities they would be named such.
Not sure I can agree that all accessories are "fluff". Some things really do make a huge difference.
For example, if you were shorter than 5'8" or taller than 5'11", you sure would appreciate something other than the fixed A2 stock.
Or if you wear glasses, are near or far sighted, or are older, you sure appreciate optics over irons.
Pretend you shoot service rifle in the open class. a free float tube will make a noticeable difference at longer ranges.
NM graduated rear sights for some types of shooting are a MUST if you want to compete with the big boys.
Not everything you hang on an AR is about tacticool.

Yes - this one has been away for the holidays (sorry for the neglect!) Lots of great suggestions, but I narrowed it down to a few. Here are the winners:
