New to shotshell reloading

I was thinking about starting to reload shotshells. I currently reload pistol and rifle cartridges on a Rockchucker, so am familiar with reloading. What I am looking for is a realistic idea for component costs and what is the best source in Ontario for these components (Hummasons?). If you could also help with preferred components that would be great.

If I were to start reloading 12g 00 buck, I would assume these components (and yes, I will be getting a shotshell reloading manual ). Please let me know if I am off on pricing or if I have the wrong component listed;

Hulls - (AA?) $ ?
Wads - WAA12L - (250) $8.00
Primers - W209 - $52.00 / 1000
Powder - Titewad (?) - 4lbs - $82.00
Shot - ?

Hi Steve:
You are going to want to look at picking up a mec sizemaster loader or a 600JR but the sizemaster had a much better collet system for reforming the hulls's brass and will have an auto primer feature which eventually you will want.
On components especially when reloading buckshot buy nothing until you find the exact published load you want to reproduce.
There are very few published buckshot loads right now to chose from so buying your components prior may prove to be a waste of money.
I will look later to see what if any buckshot loads are in the new lyman book

Shotgun/ buckshot can be fun to load

Get / borrow a Shotgun reloading book (Lyman)

Check out

they have some data basic stuff
other powder manuf have some data on line

Lyman and a few others have moulds --> that you can cast your own shot

Recommend Pure lead or the softest you can find

Get some data before you go out and get your powder

depending on on your powder 1lb will make between 150 to 250 rounds
4 lb = 1000 rounds

So if you get 1lb powder you only need 200 primers

How many are you going to use for practice and how many for hunting in a year

and loading the buck shot you count & load the balls by hand

Don't worry, I will be getting a reloading manual as stated. I just am trying to get a reasonable idea on component costs. And a good source for said components in Ontario, thnx.

Just a quick note, the current AA hulls are not as good for reloading as the Remington one piece, especially for target loads. If you are looking at strictly buckshot, another option would be the federal target hulls. The striaght wall in these hulls provides more room for components, which can be an issue in buckshot. If you want to do some research, got to shotgunworld.com. The reloading forum is great there.
