Brand New 50 bmg

hi guyz. i know this thread is a few weeks old, but i've got a question.
few of us family men can afford the coin to go whole hog on a 50bmg. i mean, 10 G's?
i know that included reloading equip, scope, etc., but that's way out of the ballpark for me.
i'm wondering who sells 50 uppers, since they're generally under 2 grand. i know the AR lower isn't the most robust for the 50 cal. recoil, but for an occassional shooter
(read: i can't afford the ammo either :) it would be o.k.
anyone heard of them for sale north o' the border?

I think you are talking about a .50AE which is waaaay! different in the recoil dept.

No $hit !!!!!!

I'm sure it's been said already somewhere but, "if you put an AR lower on a
50cal upper, it becomes a restricted rifle even if it's a single shot configuration. The upper portion isn't serialized because it's the lower that is on an AR."

Call ATRS. Rick has the only 50cal upper for an AR I've ever seen and best of all, he has a lower for it that isn't an AR and has been certified (or whatever the government calls it) That would be your best way to go if you just want to wow the audience with a 50cal.

As for shooting the 50AE handgun, it'll hurt you. It's nothing like shooting a 44mag and it's not fun and ammo is hard to come by also.

Pretty sure he isn't. There are half a dozen US manufacturers that make .50 BMG AR-15 uppers. Serbu, Safety Harbor, Zel Custom, Ferret50, Watsons Firearms, and Bohica arms, just to quote a couple pages of Google search results.

The 50cal upper portion is all steel which will withstand the slow push recoil of the 50 and even though the lowered are, in most cases soft alluminum, the pins that hold both parts together are steel and there's a good chance the lower isn't sporting an M4 plastic collaspeable stock. All of the ones I've seen has decent foam or adjustable cheer rests with recoil pads. This is going by what's been advertised at the SHOT show in Vegas. No doubt they are a simply to operate system and they stand up, they're just very rare to find up here.

nope, you're correct, Blastattack. and some of those uppers can go for as low as $1200 in the U.S. by all accounts that i've come across the pins stay tight with a good muzzle brake. in fact one guy said his lower with an AR upper had more pin wear than his lower with a 50 upper after many hundreds of rounds.
kind of a no-brainer then , for those on a budget. if only there was more availability up here. ammo too, ...it's as cheap as $2.50/rd. down there if you hunt around,
...6-8 bucks each up here. [ouch!]

If you're reloading your own up here, you can get the ammo close to 2.50/rnd.
Although I can appreciate you wanting to find the most economical way to shoot a 50cal, still cheaper yet would be to make a friend with a 50cal and buy ammo for it. Like renting a boat when you go to the lake.
