Rinsing parts caused immediate rust!

Hey guys,

I was running hot water over all parts to thoroughly remove Simple Green. I rinsed the parts for a few minutes, and dried them off with paper towel. Then I used a hot blow dryer for a few minutes to make sure all water was removed. After that, the parts started to get rust residue on them. The CLP I directly sprayed on to all parts seemed to remove the rust very quickly. Is this normal? Or did I do something stupid? :HR:
 
Yes fresh clean dry metal rusts up very quickly.
A good example of this is an engine block. After you hot tank it for cleaning it has to be oiled or painted right away. Same with metal parts that get sandblasted.
 
Get some eezox.it's hard to clean off once it's on and will allow you to wash your parts without rusting so fast afterwards
 
Same stuff as No-lox or Noalox or whatever You want to call it. They have it at electrical supply shops. Its for coating the wires in before you clamp them down in a terminal. Never rusts.
 
So from what I'm getting from all of this is that this is all normal, and not the end of the world. I don't plan to do such a thorough cleaning with Simple Green for a long time. I just wanted to get rid of the factory lube/metal shavings before putting down a first base of a good quality CLP. From here on out, I plan to use CLP religiously to clean and re-lube all internals/externals. After long term continuous use, will CLP remove all traces of rust?
 
Honestly stay away from these "old time not gun related but works great for a gun" advice/products. Hoppe's 9 and gun oil, its that simple and it was made SPECIFICALLY for guns! Who woulda thunk it!? Same as in the milsurp section, all these gimmick ideas such as using Windex on a gun after shooting corrosive ammo, honestly Hoppe's 9 was the only solvent that thoroughly cleaned my rifle after corrosive ammo and did not allow for immediate rust. Solvent wipe, let dry, apply gun oil.

Next time soak it over night with clp, and then blow it out with air the next day, wipe it down scrub it out and relube. Water isn't the greatest gun cleaner especially when cleaning out grease.

Rust will not be removed with clp, you have to physically remove it with a little force. Clp will help keep it at bay.
 
Someone asked about eezox, any gun shop should be able to order it. Gun n games in Alberta carries a good supply, they are a new site sponsor. 403 742 0673, get some wipeout while you're at it. An excellent bore cleaner if you let it sit in the bore for 24 hours.
 
From experience, I've learned that rinsing is best accomplished with very hot tap water... that way, once the part being rinsed gains the same temperature as the hot water, the extra water left over evaporates nearly instantly when you're done rinsing (within a few seconds) because the metal is like a hot iron and no blower is necessary... and you're ready to oil parts right away.

Opening only the hot water tap and waiting till said water reaches max temperature does the trick for me. All water disappears from the gun parts being rinsed almost instantly, like magic. Make sure you wear thick rubber gloves though, as that sucker can get hot!

With oil one must understand how it works for protection against rust. Oils and petroleum products are lighter than water. They require adhesion to clean dry parts to provide protection. If the adhesion is not complete, or the oil is thin in spots, water will eventually work under it because it is heavier. This is the main reason why Eezox works better than near anything else for protection; it has no oil in it and its heavier than water. It stays put, once the carriers evaporate out of it and leaves a dry film coating/lubricant that adheres well and water cannot work under it.
