hey, for a gift i got a vortex nomad spotting 20-60x60mm and after trying it out for a while i see that at 60x zoom its kind of hard to see small stuff clearly, it gets a little blurry... i havnt tried many spotting scopes in my life so i dont know if its normal that it happens...

my budget when i was gonna buy a spotting scope was about 400 bucks and i was looking at getting the vortex nomad cause the guy in the store recomended it to me... (everything allways look better in the store then you get it out in the real world and its not as good lol...)so when xmas came around i put it on my list and someone got it for me :D should i return it and pool the money together (800 total) and get a higher quality one or is the vortex nomad a good spotting scope? (or save money and put that in some other things...) what would you guys recomend for a good spotting scope? im mostly gonna be using it for long range target shooting and some hunting...

i think ill go in the store tomorrow and check out the viper 20-60x80 and also the bushnell ledgend ultra HD 20-60x80 and see if i think its worth it but i still would like your input on this...

thanks :D

If you are not happy now you will never be happy. Return it and upgrade it to one that does what you need it to do. Seeing tiny little holes is a costly business, making them is even costlier. Don't buy anything but a spotting scope. That is what you want so get one

BINGO :)

I had the little guy and fiddled with it........a lot.
Bought the big one and enjoy using it.
Less neck strain as well.

You won't be happy looking at hits on steel at a mile, till you buy one of these. Konus - Konuspot. I have the 20-60 X 80 and its awesome. These guys ship to canada too.

The total is about $450 to your door. I've looked through 100s of spotting scopes. You won't beat this one.

^anyone else used one of those before? seams kind of cheap for such a "good" spotting scope...

maybe someone close by has one that i can take a look at? (or through lol...)

but it dose sound good... and the price is right.... sorry guys but there is no way im spending $2000 on a spotting scope...

Unfortunately there isn't a magic $450 spotting scope that offers the equivalent optics of the top end $2500 to $3000 scopes regardless of what one person may think. If there was such a thing, the manufacturers would not be able to sell the high priced spotting scopes, yet they keep right on selling them.

Does anybody else know of these spotting scopes first hand?

Yeh... I saw them. But did you notice they gave the same hight ratings to Barska, Celestron and Vangaurd too?

Sounds like the holly grail of the spotting scopes. I have been looking for one to see .30 holes at 300m. After returning two that claimed they will deliver, I have come to conclusion that to see clearely at X60, you have got to go over a grand or even $1500.

I use a Kowa TSN-1 with a 22X wide angle eye piece on a Freeland scope stand. On a good day with perfect lighting conditions and no mirage I can see bullet holes at 300m.

Konus isn't bad for the $$$ you pay for them, but no where near as nice as a Kowa.

I think you are on the right track. Nikon Fieldscope lll, Pentax PF 65 (with the eyepiece for the 80mm spotter), or Kowa 660 series are about the start of the quality spotters. I picked up a Fieldscope lllED off Fleabay for around a grand. It was a great little spotter but had a straight eyepiece. Moved up to a Kowa 773 for prone shooting and have no regrets there either.

sounds like you need to spend $2500-3000 for a scope that fits your bill. Swarovski and Leica will give you clarity at 60X

Cheers!!

So will my old 80mm Fluorite Kowa...came with a x20-60 zoom and a x30W/A lens and enviromental weather cover. I also got an 80mm FlashGuard for it from the US of A.

As our range here in yUK is the only one in the country that faces south, the low winter sun is a RPITA without an AFD on spotter or rifle-scope.
