hey guys forgive me if this question has been asked already. do you sks guys notice that czech ammo leaves your guns extra black after a good day shooting? i put a whole case of the russian stuff through my gun and it was a pain to clean each time but this czech stuff seems to be super dirty.

yup, filthy stuff. I test fired the last SKS I sold before shipping it with just 5 rds, the gun was cleaned spotless beforehand. I pulled out more dirts patches than I got from firing 40 rds. non corrosive (20 rds. mfs and 20 rds. S&B)

i bought 880 rounds of it, looks like i will have lots of cleaning to do before its all used up.usually i just squirt windex done barrell and then use a homemade funnel and pour boiling hot water down barrel, then run patched with bore cleaner...takes a lifetime to clean haha

I herd that not the best way to do it. Hoppes 9 solvent is the best.

There is nothing wrong with what you're doing. It's thorough and it works. Personally I just spray the barrel, bolt, and gas system with G96 and put it away until it gets too dirty for my liking and then clean it. If a military arm can't go a couple thousand rounds without needing to be tidied up its not much of a military arm.

That's something I've never understood. This is military issue ammo being fired in military issue rifles.

Am I supposed to believe that soldiers in trenches had to clean their rifles like we do after shooting corrosive ammo? It sounds pretty far fetched to me.

Good point on both parts. It is correct that a soldier in the field would not have been so fussy. That's why they have armourers attatched to each unit. The corosive stuff, although not great for your rifle, will not rot the metal away instantly. As collectors we tend to keep our stuff pristine but leaving a bit of residue in the bore will do little harm left overnight.

The Czech stuff is d-i-r-t-y !! The Polish surplus stuff seems a little better, but it could be my imagination.
If you want to keep your SKS cleaner, commerical non-corrosive is worlds apart cleaner.

I mentioned this in another post, but the earlier Czech surplus (from the 70's) seems to burn a little cleaner than the later surplus stuff.

Yes. As an former soldier, that is exactly what they do. Your rifle is your life. They were not lazy civilians who have ongoing debates to justify poor excuses and procrastination for not doing things properly. The fact that so many these old rifle are in such pristine condition is proof of the way they were maintained.

The part that is pretty far fetched is the ignorance of people today who doubt what burdens and sacrifices were made by our Fathers, Grandfathers, and Uncles, so we can enjoy the freedom and education that we have today. Well... some the education is not equal, but freedom nevertheless.

Illiterate and uneducated peasant soldiers could clean these rifles properly everyday, and did.

Fiddler; Thank you for your first-hand input.

I was never suggesting that any soldiers were too lazy to clean their rifles. More that they wouldn't have the means or the opportunity to do so, while fighting in the trenches.

I can't imagine having my rifle all in pieces for cleaning when all hell is breaking loose.

most of eastern block rifles bores were chrome lined for that reason, it made them more resistant to the corrosive salts....they still needed to be cleaned... my father trained and shot the ak47 and he told me they would clean the rifles by immersing them in boiling water first and then clean the bores and get the rifles oiled...they were aware of the corrosive qualities of their ammo.. but then again, my dad said he went thru two rifles during his 2 year life as a conscript...they just didint care much about them... they were plentiful... completely different philosophy

Has anyone tried the non-corrosive Chinese ammo from Canada-Ammo?

If so, what's your review of it?

Is it worth the extra price?

x1, I never been in the army but i know that cleaning is a daily duty, doesn't matter if you shot your rifle or not. Cleaning must be done whenever possible.

Interested in this also, a couple forum sponsors sell it, it's about 30cents/round. That's about the mid-way point in price between Czech surplus and (for example) MFS.

It seems to be cleaner than Czech surplus, but I'm not positive. I only used it once so far. At least you can rely on the fact that whatever residue your cleaning missed is non-corrosive.

And I got a kick out of the "Saudi Arabia - Ministry of the Interior" that is stamped on the crate.
