Baby Desert Eagle vs NP29 in 9MM

I have a Jericho(Baby Desert Eagle) in 40S&W.
Excellent gun, accurate, very good trigger pull.
I figure it sould be just as good in 9mm.
About $595 plus Tax and Shipping. Good deal.

Just recently recieved my NP 29 from SFRC, $410 inclusive.
Accurate, but not as good as my Jericho.
Trigger pull is surprizingly good, and a joy to shoot.

If I could only get one, it would be the Baby Desert Eagle.
But you sure won't go wrong with the Norinco.
I have no complaints with the fit and finish.

Baby eagle is a copy of CZ design and they also have very good workmanship. the gun shoot really well just like any CZ gun. I had a cz 75B and still own a NP-29. understand that NP-29 is like a budget gun and able to shoot nicely but still lacking of refinement. If the fit and finish is not that important to you, NP-29 is a good gun for the money and you can use it to learn 1911 design.

Out of those two choices, I'd take the Norinco, although I think the IMI is probably more reliable out of the box.

I would take the Norinco because of my history with 1911s, and Norincos. I feel pretty confident that for a few hundred dollars I could make it into a very reliable 9mm 1911, and those are a lot of fun.

I'm not particularly a fan of the CZ-75 and knock-offs of a gun that I don't really like that much don't appeal to me.

However I will be the first to admit that if I were to rank the various people I have learned about shooting from from 1-10, Slavex is far and away number one. I have learned more from Slavex than anyone else by far, and he shoots a CZ. So they are not bad guns, they just do not appeal to me for my specific demands. Still, if I were to buy one, I would buy the CZ, not the IMI.

Interestingly Ken Hackathorn thought that the Norinco knockoffs of the CZ-75 were better guns than actual CZ-75s. So that could be another option.

The NP 29 would surprize a lot of people.
If you were to give it a try.
It seems that Norinco quality is going up,
as North American QC is going down.

Ones a DA/SA with a long take up when shooting SA due to the needs for the length of pull to handle the DA mode. The other is a 1911 which is SA with a much shorter pull length and feel due to the nature of the action.

Frankly other than both being black'ish and shooting 9mm ammo I don't see a lot of commonality to even allow a comparison. Each is what it is.

Now if you're trying to figure out which to buy then I'd say it's simple. The only correct answer is "one of each". Since you asked already you obviously don't have the same sort of phobia about chinese guns as many around here have.

The Norincos are definetly a bit rough around the edges. But they DO SHOOT WELL! My own is currently shooting as good as I'm able. Frankly during its first outing it made me actually look better than I normally do. But it does have a lot of small things that I want to correct in terms of removing sharp and razor like edges, shortening the idiotically long slide release and a few other small things. But overall it looks a lot better than I expected.

But if you're not the sort to take on such detailing with confidence then your comparison would be better if you were comparing the IWI Jericho to the STI Spartan, RIA or the new SAM 1911 in 9mm. Apparently these come more or less nicely detailed out of the box so they would be a better more direct comparison to the Jericho.

If you want a comparison on a more basic level of the two guns then the Jericho is a DA/SA gun which makes it elligable for IPSC Production class and for IDPA SSP class. If your goal is to get into one of these match formats then the 1911 can't shoot in the Production class for IPSC because it's SA only. Same with IDPA where it has to shoot in ESP or some such class. Again due to the SA action.

On the other hand if you're just after a gun to do range days with I'd say get the Jericho. It's ready to go out of the box without any detailing needed. Or if you really like the 1911 format but are lost when it comes to actually removing metal and touching up blueing or just don't want to deal with such things then go with an RIA, SAM or STI 1911 chambered in 9mm.

Thanks Folks for all the Feebback and Info!
I find this one of the best places to get information, when it comes to making a great and educated decision when purchasing a new gun.
For "me" I like both guns! I like the fit, feel and function when it comes to guns, and both work.
For the moment I think that I will purchase the Baby Desert Eagle.
