I have a new Wingmaster rem 870 that was just sitting in the safe never get used. I decided to put it to some use and make it to my bush "beater".

It had a wood stock and forearm that I replaced with tacticool plastic already and now I need to replace the barrel. The original on it is 26" vent rib smooth bore. I want something shorter with no vent rib on it. 20" smooth bore will be perfect.

The question: is any 20" Rem 870 barrel will work? Who has done this before - what barrel worked? Any issues? Who sells them?

I also need side sling mounts that are flat and can be used for both - LH and RH sling mount (ambidextrous?). Where can I get them? I have one for forearm and need another one to install between the stock and receiver.

Thanks.

Yes the barrel is interchangeable and S&J hardware on here sells lots of stuff for the rem 870 .

Wholesale sports lists factory rem barrels under accessories in all different flavours. They sell a 20" smoothbore w/rifle sights. Be sure to post a wtb ad in the EE, you'll be surprised what people have laying around especially for an 870. As stated S&J makes/carries alot of stuff for the 870, Dlask makes some goodies, NEA has a few bits. One Shot Tactical will have a bunch of stuff too. Be sure to post pics

I'm sure it'll look sweet, and a factory rem barrel should fit an 870 like a glove. Next you'll need a +3 extension ;) One thing I remember tho is older 2 3/4" wingmasters require swapping to a 3" ejector to use 3" shells when swapping to a 3" bbl. If your wingmaster is 3" from factory then its good to go

You'll need to replace the original magazine cap to an express cap if you're using an express barrel. They use a different retention system. Not a big expense, I just bought an "Uncle Mikes" sling swivel kit for like $8 and used that.

I got mine WM this year on Easter so I guess it's from the new batch. It says "light contour, 2-3/4" or 3"; 3-1/2" only with super mag receiver" so I guess I am ok.

Extension.... well, I was looking at S&J mag extensions (+3) and can't figure out what color it is. The new barrel I ordered will come in matte black. The stock and forend are matte black too, so it should work fine but that S&J extension seems greyish (parkerized?). They say it's made of solid steel. I wonder if it will add more weight to the front than if I would go with factory extension mag. Also, insanely expensive (115$+tax before shipping?). My barrel cost me just a bit more than that. Just thinking out loud... lol :)

I will check for the express mag cap as well. Great advice. Thank you!

what to do with that 26" barrel?

Hey coldblood, I was just thinking of putting a WTB ad in the EE looking for a wingmaster 26" or 28" barrel. If you don't want yours please pm me.
Cheers
