Is this a stupid idea?

I just got a box of magtech 12 full brass shells with the proper wads and cards..
The thing is: I do not have time to go get some shot and powder to load them before goin up to the cottage.But I have a s**t load of Win,s heavy game loads for grouse, so the question is: could I use the powder charge and shot from a couple of those shells to reload the magtech brass(with the appropriate wads and cards) ??? I kno That I would not be saving $ but I just want to try those shells on my last grouse hunt of the season.. Dangerous?? Any advice appreciated!
 
Useing the shot is not the issue . The UNKNOWEN powder and charge IS HUGE issue.
Yes I have reloaded brass shells with smokeless powder but with a light load of a known powder after research and advice. What you purpose is littered with problems.
Resist the urge for your own well being!
YEA it MAY work or it could be a diaster .Have you won millons in lotter 649 lately?
 
The phrase, "Is this a stupid idea?", Is usaually followed later by the phrase ,"It seemed like a good idea at the time!!"
Seriously, If you are loading the new cases/hull following proper load data for that case/hull and you have to canabalize a few factory shells to get the lead you need, It isn't a problem. The problem lies in using an unknown powder. Every brand of case/hull may create a different pressure. So to make a long winded answer shorter... probably not a good idea.

Anytime I hear those words "is this a stupid idea" it's usually followed up with "I don't know....hold my beer and let's find out" :D
 
Loads are developed with pressure gauges etc. The new hull is different and will react different. Will the wad fit properly? Unknown powder, are you willing to risk your health & the gun? Enjoy the shells you have & when you reload use data for those hulls.

Without reading your post the answer by default is yes.

After reading your post I would suggest that you just buy the proper components and not try to cut corners. That being said, it's your gun and your health if you want to try...
 
You shouldn't, but If you MUST, then please have someone take a video of you doing it, and post it on youtube......under the heading "experiment gone wrong". I gave up taking risks as soon as my little one came into the world. Got kids??

If you can find them, get 11ga wads. Hopefully at least a bigger card for under the shot cup and over the shot.

The brass shells are thinner than plastic hulls and 12ga components will be a little undersize.
