I need to build on a stripped lower.....buffer tube/trigger parts etc....
who has the best deal? do i need a milspec tube or is a civy one okay?

Good luck finding an LPK - TSE had some as of today, the other five places I called were sold out. Either diameter of receiver extension will work just fine - make sure you order your stock to work with your extension.

We usually have Daniel Defense lower parts kits in stock however we just sold out the other day.

We do have more on the way and they should be back in stock mid Jan.

I think NEA is also selling LPK's, but they are M16 LPK's with semi-auto hammers substituted and no auto-sear (obviously). No idea who made them originally and NEA is not telling, but they seem to be OK now that they are shipping with lighter hammer springs. $79 here:

If on a budget, you can also order complete DPMS or Bushmaster LPK's from Brownells for not a lot of money. Despite what DPMS-haters will say, I've used them a bunch of times and have not had any more issues than I had with the RRA, Armalite and Colt kits I've used in the past.

There are lots of other great Canadian sources, but as mentioned, many retailers are sold out in the Christmas bonanza aftermath...

Claven,

Maybe you can answer this, as I asked in another thread, but never got an answer.

Are NEA shipping FA safeties with their LPKs?

I saw a photo on here from someone who was posting photo's of their build progress, and there appeared to be a few FA parts, including safety.

I was wondering at the time, if the FA parts were contributing to the heavy trigger pull that people were reporting, prior to NEA changing the springs.

Regards.

The kit I saw had a 3 rd burst M16A2 selector in it, yes. That would not contribute to a heavier pull though and it's not illegal to have FA parts in your AR so long as you do not install the auto-sear. With an NEA selector, you can rotate to the auto position if the lower will allow it, but it will still only fire in semi-auto. The way the trigger mechanism is designed, the selector type has no impact on trigger pull. That's entirely a function of hammer to trigger geometry and surface finish coupled with hammer and trigger spring weight.

Thanks for replying.

I am aware of how the mechanism works, and the legal bits, but as the only part I could remember from the photo was the safety, that was why I mentioned it.

Thinking about it now (I can't seem to find the original photo), there was also what looked like a FA trigger and disconnector. I can't remember what the hammer looked like.

I was thinking at the time that using FA parts (including springs) was what was causing the trigger pull weight that some had complained of.

If you say they are using the 3-round burst components, then that makes sense, as I have seen discussions where users seemed to think that the 3-round burst setups had worse triggers than FA rifles.

NEA, do your kits come with or without pistol grip?

I'm currently negotiating for a stripped lower, and all I need are the internals.

I'd like to avoid paying for another A2 pistol grip, if I can.

They come with grips as well.

Not to be critical, but the kit from NEA posted in another thread had a (clearly) semi-auto hammer with the top notch on the face and no auto-sear tail on it.

I've only seen that one photyo of your kits, so maybe it was an anomaly, but it certainly did not appear to be a FA hammer.

That being said, I think it makes ZERO difference which hammer you use in a semi-auto build. They both work equally well unless you build a 9mm blowback gun.
