Wireless camera setup

A while back I put a topic about good spotter for the range of 300m and more. One response was is to have wireless setup. Anybody uses that? I am looking for all options and so far, no luck as wifi connection distance is sucks.
 
I just found a kit on ebay for $230, then all you'd need to work out is power supply, camera & monitor. This may be the route I eventually go with!
 
If you use the "search this forum" function in the top right corner of the Precision rifles forum and type in wireless camera you will get about 10 hits. The first couple list components CGNers have put together and are using.

Thnx for the tip. So far I see it kinda not complicated, but as I mentioned before, I am looking if there is a possibility to connect to laptop. I cannot imagine bringing all these items to for the shoot, too much weights. I might be wrong, but I thought maybe there is some new updates.

Here is a pic of the stuff I use and it is good to around 700/800yds. For the money invested, dirt cheap way to fly.

GoPro is introducing a wireless streaming device for the use with its new Hero2 camera. Check their web site out for more details. If I'm not mistaken, it can transmit data by Bluetooth right to your smartphone. Seems like a slick set up but it hasn't hit the market yet.

Sounds like the technology is getting more readily available and cheaper by the day. That's a good thing.

Jerry, what have you based your camera set up on?
 
Any digi video recorder (DVR) or camera (DC) with a video output can be used. They have a 1/8" circular jack somewhere on the chassis.

With most, you also need to record before the output is active so immediately, you record your shooting session. Deleting between strings is a good thing or carrying multiple SD cards.

Problem with any device using a smartphone is the size of the view screen. A 7" TFT screen is pretty small - I much prefer the 9". A 3" screen is going to make viewing very difficult even with larger cal holes.

We only get low res images so a bigger screen will help see the holes. I drop the bullets into a white page (mirror image of the target) and I can loose the shots if they hit the line (22cal holes, 1/4" scoring line). If a shot goes high into the black, odds are tough to see it.

I am sure there are better ways to transmit the image (more powerful TX) but I think the res is pretty much static with the cheap gear we can use.

But it works and sure saves time on the feet.

All that is needed is a wireless IP camera and a Cambodian Tire power pack to get the juice and a notebook computer with wifi router, you can get a Trendnet wireless IP camera cheaper if you follow Dell's days of deals. A name brand camera with optical zoom in lieu of the useless digital zoom is the best but for some reason they are ridiculously expensive.

The bundled camera software is sufficient to record and more.

Do you know max distance for wifi?
 
I have recently bought a couple wireless IP cameras from factorydirect.ca

Work pretty good; they are copies of Apexis.

You will probably get 100meters of good signal. 200-300 with a highly variable signal.

You can fix and extend with the right ($$$) equipment

I know someone at another range who got permission to rig up some small repeaters along the berm line and hooked it up to solar. So he just hooks up his components (camera/transmitter), (screen/receiver), and he is good to go. But $$$
