I got the chance to take the M-44 carbines to the range today. I took a 1944 Izhevsk and a 1953 Polish M-44. I started with The Russian and had to make a few adjustments. It started out low and right which was a surprise compared to the opposite with the 91/30's. The Polish was low and to the right at 50 and 100. I decided to leave the Pole alone and corrected for elevation with the rear sight. The first 4 shots with the Pole at 100 were amazing. Not sure where the fifth one went. The 200 yard target is only the Polish M-44. I fired 20 rounds at it. Considering that my foresight blocks the entire width of the target at 200, I'm pretty happy that it's on the paper. I need more time with the Russian at 200 yards.

That was PRVI 182gr. I'm fireforming for each of the Mosin's. I've almost gone through 500 rounds of the PRVI but have 300 new Lapua cases also.

Well, with groups like that, why bother reloading? Groups from either of those rifles are heart shots in my world. I have a East German M44 that shoots about the same groups as your Russian, but that Polish baby ROCKS !

I gotta get one of them darn Polish M44s now, thanks to you and Jocelyn

I had a couple of guys come over to see what was throwing fireballs downrange. That was in broad daylight too. I had a guy to my right shooting black powder and between the smoke and sparks he was creating and my flamethrower we got some attention.

I am glad u finally took the Russian for a trip;) I hope you like her.

Well done. For that 200 yard target, don't worry about the 2 that missed, we'll let those two go.

Hi Z-man. I was actually waiting till I got my headspace guages before I took it to the range. I chambered a couple of rounds and found it a bit tight. Usually the Mosins fail the "no go" test and not the "go" test. It was tight but it chambered properly and preformed great. The 3 gauges shown are go, no go, and field.
Have you loaded any of the brass we swapped? I hope things are good for you and family for the New Year.

That is good shooting for open sight AAA+++ Marksman.

Yes they are Okie gauges. $55.00 US for the 3 gauge set. They ship to Canada. You can buy them individually if you choose. I've spent a bit of dough lately on sights, sight tools, and headspace gauges, but it's making me happy. I shoot good when I'm happy.

Family is doing great, happy new year for you too.
Where did you get those go no go gages?

Hey Chumlee. It was great meeting you at the range today. We will have to have a shoot off between your best M44 and my replica M38. That would be fun. Then you could sell me one of your 44s :)
