Theme is 308 to a mile! Feb 18 2012

Alright so I was thinking of a 29 inch krieger 1-10 and slinging some 205 bergers.anyone have a xr100 they don't want anymore..?

Had some trigger time the other day, did a ladder test . Then tested some of the clusters and got the new toy shooting a .267 inch 3 shot group at 100. Just going to try a 1/10th grain each way and then load up a bunch. Yee haw! Then to crony them and see what speed there doing. Then drum up a ballistic table and off to the 1 mile range. In all fairness I'm just going to shoot at the logs that were behind the 1 mile target, not any steel target. I'll save that splatter for Feb. Why is it when ya want to do load testing, it has to blow 25kph, for the next 5 days.

The proof in the pudding is when you know without looking that a 15 km wind is 9.5 moa in windage and if it gets bad, to say 25km you know off the top of your head its 15+ moa!!
Trigger time = fun time.

Well how many confirmed so far? Thinking this shoot will be very interesting in the least !!! Curiouse to see what everyone brings out of the wood work for this event

12 confirmed and 3 will see. Steady 44km wind and gusting to 65 here today. No group testing today. 2 walls up inside the house though.

Good to go!

Evidence :dancingbanana:
2nd closest impact 60 paces away. Walking it in. Lots of clusters of 5 impacts.

closest impact to logs. 30 paces away. Tracks make it hard to see impacts.

Impact on log. Its a hit behind where the sept steel stood.

I used everything the scope had, 100 MOA, with a 155 grain bullet(at 3045fps) 35 thou in shims and 10 moa in the burris Z rings. I'm going to bump the fps a bit to 3100 and do it again. I think there will be more crunching happening when I seat the bullet!! I'm at 105% now.
Next was Chinchaga 176gr (@ 2647 fps) again using everything +35 thou shims, 10 MOA in the rings and everything in the reticle.
Good test day 0 wind setting. LIG

NXS 5.5-22X56 NP-R2 in that one. Its cool having like 2.5 -3 seconds to get the scope back on target to see the splash in the snow. My new admiration for the 308. LIG

I finally have my rifle set to go for this event. Railed with Burris Zee rings I am at max elevation adjustment for my Mark 4. With reticle I easily have 105min.

Thoretically I have 10MOA to spare! :D

I should post a pic of my setup, it has changed a bit since your fall shoot. :)

House, Hughie, HOUSE......You're supposed to be building a house.....

Its presently hurry up and wait for, "boss#2" to pick out interior doors, solids verses bi-fold, for me to build rough openings. So it should be good for a few days of plinking. Then theres the shower and tub to be chosen. If it comes in one piece it has to be put in the room or cut out walls to install later. Woohoo trigger time. I only work halftime anyway. 1-5 still not as good as a certain couch person we know. 46.5gr test here we come.

I'm going to have to see if I can get that Friday and Saturday off....long dang drive - if I can split gas/hotel with Bob from Custom Gunworx this could be fun!

I will bring something a biut meaner than a 308 though...I just took the barrel off of it for another chinchaga bullet fueled beast :) I just want to see if I can HIT a target at a mile! I've already smacked steel at 1373yards...add another 400...sounds FUN to me!

I keep tellin' you guys that I've "earned" that spot on the couch. Once you start to work as hard as I do then you can "earn" yours too.........:p....hahahaha.

Good luck with your shoot Hugh. Sorry I can't make it up there to totally kick your a$$...again...:).

I keep tellin' you guys that I've "Learned" that spot on the couch. Once you start to work as hard as I do then you can "learn" yours too.........:p....hahahaha.

Good luck with your shoot Hugh.

Laugh2
Ya gotta lay off that stuff man:onCrack: Your fantisizing again.:nest:;)
Today carpenter, tomorrow plumber.

update
3 different rounds ready.
155gr Nosler CCs at 3065fps, way past accuracy node. Most accurate at 2800.
176gr Chinchaga at 2600fps, as hot as the bolt opening will allow.
205gr Chinchaga at 2435fps, as hot as the bolt opening will allow.
Most of the above could shoot in the .23" - .3s but having to push them to the extreme end of the velocity curve, its still inside an inch at 150 yards
