Hey guys,

thinking about picking up a cheap norc for ####s and giggles, problem is I really don't care for the models I'm seeing for sale on the sponsor sites, the only with the front serrations and the extended slide release.

I'm lucking for a norc 1911 that is more true to the original, if anybody knows a site sponsor that stocks these that would be great, but I have a feeling I'm going to have to end up searching the EE.

Check out a SAM before thinking Regent. In fact check out a SAM before thinking Norinco.

/\ +1 Marstar for Norkie original 1911A1 clone.

Norkie is a good choice for a clone. IMO, the major reasons for owning a Norkie 1911 are:

1. its faithfulness to original dimensional specifications, such that generic or specialty parts will fit with little or no fitting. Bomar style sights, match barrels and most beavertails will require machining or more fitting like on any other 1911 or clone.

2. the quality of steel in their frames and slides, which is tougher than most if not all the other manufacturers.

3. small parts seem to work well enough in terms of initial and long terms fit and durability.

4. low cost

5. proven performance in terms of durability, reasonable accuracy.

6. easy to re-sell on the EE should you decide 1911s are not for you. Just take a 100 dollar hit on the selling price and you'll sell it quick.

Even 1911 afficionados seem to like the Norkie version.

My biggest issue with stock 1911A1s are the grip safety (which allows hammerbite...not fun at all), small sights (hard to see) and short trigger (too short for me YMMV). Most people will suffer hammerbite if using a high grip and thumb over safety hold, or even if not.

With a beavertail, ring hammer, higher and wider combat front sight/matching rear sight and a medium long trigger, a Norkie clone works well.

What did you say? The Sport Model has these and more?

Seriously, some of the improvements included with the Sport are more of a detriment, IMO. Like the extended mag release, extended slide lock, hideous front slide serrations and that ugly slide top rib, YMMV. The wobbly trigger is a joke but it works:) Dehorning and smoothing of rough edges is a must, IMO.

I haven't shot my Sport in 45 and 9 (they don't call the 9 a Sport, but has the same goodies) and Commander, enough to break them in completely, but my bud's Commander shoots like a dream. Its stock trigger has smoothed out after a few thousand rounds and after a switch to a Wolff sear spring, has one of the sweetest 1911 triggers.

More Guns got raided a while ago and might be possibly the worst choice for a dealer in Canada. There are so many threads around here on how bad they were it isn't even amusing.

So I would avoid them.;)

As for Norcs, I have owned a number and still have an older NP-29 that was worked over by Dlask and a new square guard Commander length in .45ACP. Great value in a 1911, with decent fit and finish on the later shipments aside from some sharpish edges.

"More Guns got raided"???? Explain please.

I know they have a bad rep. The only item I have purchased from them was a mag, of which they charged an arm and leg for shipping but I did get it within 3 days. I noticed their website no longer lists firearms as a category nor do they list "More Guns Ammo"?

What needs explanation. The owner was a poor business person, ripped a lot of people off. Lots of people forwarded complaints to RCMP. RCP aware he had a firearm that could be converted. They Raided his store, and charged him with other offenses RE: storage etc

SAM? :confused::confused:

And thanks for the marstar link, thought they were all out of stock.

You're welcome. If you're looking for a classic styled value 1911, I'd go for this one. I bought the same one from Marstar almost 2 years ago and I'm happy with it. It is true that the sights are a little hard to find in a hurry, but I don't want huge aftermarket things on my 1911.
