I thought my question was pretty clear, as I said I wasn't interested in a quad rail. I was hoping to be able to get a side rail (also called side rail) to mount on the front of rifle. I have an offset mount for a light I'd like to install, which is why I'd only like a side rail. I've seen them for the sr22 but nadda for the vtr. I guess I could try a sr22 rail and see if it would mount on the vtr as the fronts are somewhat similar.
Nnnnno, your question was far from clear.
You cannot mount
a half rail or full lenght rail
or side or top or bottom
or ANY kind of rail, since your factory handguard tube
does not have provisions for that - there are no holes in it.
That is the reason I asked the questions in post # 2.
You COULD drill and tap your handguard as suggested by untergang
in a post above, and try to adopt/adapt some rail,
with the condition that your tube is the same diam or larger than
the particular tube the rail was originally intended for.
If you want my help, go and measure the diam of your tube,
since VTR 597 came with 2 different tube diameters.
If it is 2", you are almost set.
If it is smaller, post the dimension and we will go from there.
