Buying my first AR15 soon and just want to make sure I don't make any mistakes.. I'm really new to the rifle and wanted any info or tips you guys can throw at me.. Bias opinions welcome. I'm not looking to spend any more than $1300 on my first one and wouldn't mind a heavy FF barrel, preferably under 16".. Dealers more than welcome to use persuasion haha
thanks guys

Stag Arms - milspec, lifetime warranty, super fast shipping, amazingly effective muzzle break. I bought mine just before xmas and am more than pleased with it. $1285 at Arms East.

Building is not a good idea for an AR virgin.

To buy the same quality parts will usually be more expensive, even more so when you factor in the cost of shipping parts from different sources, and tools.

Then there are the problems that inevitably crop up, that will result in constant forum posts requesting help to diagnose the problems.

Finally, there is the warranty. Try getting help from a manufacturer for one part of your frankengun, especially if you don't know which part is causing the problem.

YMMV.

Sorry...can't answer the poll as you left out the Norc...for a newb I'd have to recommend cheap price...the Norc fits the bill and isn't a piece of crap (not saying any of the others are so don't flame).

How do RRA's rifles compare to these other brands? Never really see people talk about them all that much.

Thanks for the great info Mark, seems like you know your stuff.. I know a lot of people happy with their Norinco rifles. I guess I just won't be one of them, haha

Not really compared to some, that is why I spend time on M4Carbine, Lightfighter and Socnet. I read all the stickies and pay attention to the people who assemble and use them for a living.

That is also why I link to threads that support what I write. Although, now and again I do have my own opinion based on my relatively limited experience.

My vote is for ATRS. You can't go wrong with those guys. Great customer service and you'll end up with an awesome rifle.

Plus, for me, they are right here. Guy at my gun shop was going on about them yesterday actually. Do they build complete rifles or will it have to be on a custom order basis?
