10/22 Project Guns

Ok, I'm gonna say this at the risk of getting some "try searching" responses. I need someone who makes aftermarket 10/22 receivers. This is way too bulky the way I'm doing it, a shell around the receiver doesn't cut it. I need someone who is willing to make me a complete new milled receiver that mimics the dimensions of an FAL. I know it would be a big hunk of aluminum and that it would be expensive to do. Don't care, I need this to happen. If you can do this, or know who can, let me know. I can provide dimensions needed.

It's an option and if you can come up with a CAD file its not much of an issue to have someone CNC it for you. Time and Money can do anything.

But just a thought along the lines of what your doing... there are some really good bonding material in the automotive and industrial services industries that would work for you.

Perhaps a considerably thinner shell... perhaps even a very thick sheet metal, that could be moulded to fit. Then, rather than weld, you could use one of the automotive bonds instead to keep up the appearances from the outside.

Once you've outlined your faux reciever shroud and interior baffles to strengthen the box and localize your reciever inside the shroud you could lock the reicever in place by completely bedding the reciever on all sides to the inside faux reciever. With release agent on the 10/22 reciever of course;)

This would allow disassembly for the shroud to access the internals as well. Its worked for me in the past with reasonable results.

A fully CNC'd reciever shroud would probably be the best option though... just way more expensive. I suppose only expensive if you can't afford it though... like me. Abject poverty is the mother of invention:D

I don't know anything about CAD files, was planning on drawing it on a napkin and sending it away:redface:. Found someone who might be willing to do it for me, at least was willing to look at what I've got. Its a start. I just don't have the abilities/tools to do anything complex myself. I'd like this build to be a bit more sophisticated than my previous ones.

Anyone know where to get a UTG quad rail? I see them on 10-22's a lot and theyre very nice...

Oh, and what about the faux gas tube? :p

P.S.
If anyone can tell me who has this UTG stock I would appreciate it. I want to build my gun exactly as pictured above.

I've looked around but can't seem to find it on the sponsor sites... ? :(

im pretty sure im the first to do this.... i got the utg stuck when it first came out and started making this :D

@RUSTSPOT.

You're gun motivated me to go the same direction. Here is my brand new 10/22 CRR (16.5") in a full sized Carbine stock with UTG quad. I'm going to stain the stock Ebony tomorrow.

Please tell me if you can't see it.

I have Magpul MBUS on the way for the rail and eventually will get a red dot for it.

Where did you get your SCAR sights RUSTSPOT?

Who sells the UTG stock and rail ?
I have a Hogue over mould for my next project , what are the differences between it and the UTG stock ?

Quick update (hope he doesn't mind me mentioning him here): Dlask has agreed to look at my sketches and we will work from there. This is a huge step, and I think this FAL now has a fighting chance of becoming a functioning work of art! Keep your fingers crossed for me folks!

Joe Dlask will not make a 10/22 receiver look like any gun
that is a prohib in Canada. Period.
There are already tons of people trying daily to convince him to
make 10/22 receivers look like MP5's, SteyrAUG's
and all kind of other guns.

With lots of guns classified as "variants" left and right these days,
Joe doesn't need a pissing match with the RCMP
nor the pain resulting from it.

I am not sure what you understood from
your conversation with him,
but from the little I know about Joe,
he will not bite that one.

You have to understand the fine legal difference
between lookalike stock and lookalike receiver.

Of course, he will sell you a UTG Commando rail
to make your 10/22 look like an M14,
and maybe one day he will be less busy
and he will even make you
a whatever lookalike stock for a regular 10/22
(as long as the stock is not a bullpup, of course),
sumpin a la Krinker Plinker or whatever floats your boat,
but he won't step in sh!t as far as receiver lookalike.
