Ok, I'm gonna say this at the risk of getting some "try searching" responses. I need someone who makes aftermarket 10/22 receivers. This is way too bulky the way I'm doing it, a shell around the receiver doesn't cut it. I need someone who is willing to make me a complete new milled receiver that mimics the dimensions of an FAL. I know it would be a big hunk of aluminum and that it would be expensive to do. Don't care, I need this to happen. If you can do this, or know who can, let me know. I can provide dimensions needed.
It's an option and if you can come up with a CAD file its not much of an issue to have someone CNC it for you. Time and Money can do anything.
But just a thought along the lines of what your doing... there are some really good bonding material in the automotive and industrial services industries that would work for you.
Perhaps a considerably thinner shell... perhaps even a very thick sheet metal, that could be moulded to fit. Then, rather than weld, you could use one of the automotive bonds instead to keep up the appearances from the outside.
Once you've outlined your faux reciever shroud and interior baffles to strengthen the box and localize your reciever inside the shroud you could lock the reicever in place by completely bedding the reciever on all sides to the inside faux reciever. With release agent on the 10/22 reciever of course
This would allow disassembly for the shroud to access the internals as well. Its worked for me in the past with reasonable results.
A fully CNC'd reciever shroud would probably be the best option though... just way more expensive. I suppose only expensive if you can't afford it though... like me. Abject poverty is the mother of invention

. Found someone who might be willing to do it for me, at least was willing to look at what I've got. Its a start. I just don't have the abilities/tools to do anything complex myself. I'd like this build to be a bit more sophisticated than my previous ones.
