WELL I TALKED WITH JOHN FROM MARSTAR, AND I ASKED HIM IF ITS POSSIBLE TO BRING IN MORE RUSSIAN CAPTURE K98K'S AND YUGO CAPTURE 98K;S, IF THERE ARE ANY LEFT.

THIS IS WHAT HE TOLD ME.

"I have a few 98s left off shore and will likely bring them to Canada in the future....
Russian captures have no collector value and therefore are of no interest to us"
John

I WOULD RATHER HAVE A RUSSIAN CAPTURE THAN A YUGO M48. THERES MORE HISTORY BEHIND THEM. I WOUNDER WHAT MAKES JOHN THINK, THERE NOT COLLECTORS. I FIND ANY K98K TO BE COLLECTORS FOR ME.

and $75 Chinese rifles have collectors value??

I don't share his values. At the same time, he sold a load of mausers last week in less time than it took him to place ad on the website. He must be referring to the US market.

I'll pay him for one now in advance for a Russian capture K98, if he can deliver in the next 24 months.

.

Collector Value has to do with the Condition of the item being sold.

RC's are at the very bottom of the barrel as they have been refurbed, totally mismatched, black dipped, electropencilled, shellaced, peened, sanded, and basturdized by Ivan.

Condition, Condition, Condition.....

RC's are shooter grade and a cheap way to get into K98's. You can't go any lower.

Use the stamp and coin analogy. A RC K98 is just like a Penny sitting in a Sewer for the last 60 years.

Condition, Condition, Condition...

I like them, but they are what they are and are priced accordingly...

Well that type of attitude makes me sad, if I was in the position to import them and had the resources to do it, I would.

Even as parts gun, they would be worth something to restore sporters in the market.

Lord knows there could be some very interesting variants in there (i.e. cut down Gewehr 98 refurbished as a Kar98k).

Wow! An RC K98K would really round out my Russian collection nicely. I think Westrifle might be our best hope in the future.

:agree: I also pay mine right now if they can bring RC k98 in Canada.

you guys are not getting it. there is no profit in bringing them to Canada .the market is small and to much Government B.S.

No, there is still money to be made in Canada selling Russian Capture K98k's. I would bet they would sell easily for $500 apiece. And yes, John is correct, they are not really collectible but there is a market for them. In the U.S. they went for $300 each a few years ago and now they are pushing $500 each. Eventually all milsurps dry up and the value increases.

You bet, Milarm (Edmonton) had some in the $450-600 price range years ago and sold them all within a few months, if not shorter.

I picked up one with a matching bolt, barrel, receiver and stock. My older aquaintances thought I was crazy paying in that range. Then again, these rifles were plentiful (and cheaper) back in the day when they were actively collecting. They don't/didn't realize that this stuff is drying up fast, even non-matched ones. One could even argue that to expect a combat rifle to be totally matching is unrealistic, as even if not captured, the rifles frequently get repaired/serviced by unit/depot armourers.

The problem is that Russians don't want to sell those at low price. They want 300 to 350 overseas for each. After we bring those over it is well over 420 price mark. What are you as consumer willing to pay for those is driving our interest of bringing it over.

Cheers

Al

- Marstar has had almost new matching M-48BO for sale for a few years and they are selling slowly at $479.00. He just brought in some M-48A in VG condition at $300.00 and they sold in a day.

- So I do not see the RC K98K in Good condition (remember the Ukrainian Depots have been picked clean of the nicer K98K rifles by US and European importers for years now) selling for $450.00 to $500.00 very quickly in Canada.

-As I said the nicer rifles are long gone, what is left are the rifle that were passed over many times after numerous selections by experienced pickers. I know an Importer in the USA who had a man selecting rifles over a six month period at the former Soviet Arms Depots a few years ago.

P.S. I may be wrong but after 29 year as a Dealer in collectable military arms and 40 years as a collector myself you get a feeling for the marketplace.
