Timbers Wolves really this big ?

No way those are real. 200plus pounds with no strain on there faces for the lift? I have picked up a drunken 200lb friend in my earlier days and to the bystander it would have looked like I was about to #### myself. lol

The 'bear hug' pose makes them look bigger than they are. Popular way to take a picture of your cougar. Makes them look as big as an African Lion!:D

Those are definitely big mature doggies, but a real big wolf is seldom over 150 from everything I've seen or read.

You'll kill a hundred to get one over 120 pounds. I laugh at all the "200" pound ones shot. Trappers kill and stack wolves like cord wood around here and I've never seen one over 140 that was weighed on an actual scale.

I tend to agree with this. I shot a realy big wolf - it was the 12th largest in the BC record book - and it was around 150lbs. When the taxidermist saw it he said "wow, that is a huge wolf, I'm sure it would make the record book" (Gander Taxidermy).

Walk down the street and look at the men you see. The average is going to be something like 5'9". You'll see a bunch of big men at 6', but they're at the upper end of the bell curve. Then, every so often, you see somebody 6'8" and weighing 350 lb. And you can find reliable records of men 8' tall.

So, is it possible? Yes, probably.

Do I believe that all those guys got Hulk Hogan (wolf division) in their sights? Nope.

I've seen a couple of the pics before. No idea of the authenticity of the rest, but I can say about 3 yrs ago I saw a big black one cross a logging road about 12 mi E of Wabasca that made the hair stand up on the back of my neck and made me feel pretty damn small.

It was easily as big as some of the photo's, and I wasn't alone when I saw it. I didn't believe they got that big either. Now I do.

In wood buffalo provincial park where the wolf primarily preys upon bison they actually do get bigger than the norm. Obviously these photos are of "top of the food chain" alpha males and I think they are legit. Normal size wolf they are not. But 200 pounds I think is a stretch as well. More like 150ish. And that is indeed a huge wolf that weighs in that range.

Canadian TV host shot one, placed his hand across its head, commented it's head was three times the size of his pet german shepard

These 200lb wolves grew up eating rabbits like this:

In those pictures, the fur bulks them up pretty good. They may not be 200lbs, but they still are long.

Our German Shepherd is a lean 100lbs on a scale. When SHE lies down in bed beside someone, it is amazing that she is almost as long as the person.

I am very very familiar with this technique.... years of watching the Bob Izumi show has shown me that this can also be used to turn a 2 pound bass into an 8 pound lunker.....

While Bob Izumi may not be catching anything over 5 pounds on a regular basis, giant rabbits ie worpul rabbits if I recall correctly do exists and some of them are mighty large.

Just like those wolves. The very high end of the spectrum far outside of your standard deviation gets posted and circulated around the internet more often than the standard run of the mill ones.

I shot a very large male wolf on Babine lake ice in the winter of 1965.
Most of those who saw it immediately said it was one of the largest wolves they had ever seen.
Since it was the dead of winter, the carcass soon froze solid, and I eventually gave it to a trapper who also commented on it's size.
He later told me it weighed 152 lbs. [Which was heavier than I was in those days!!]
It was very large, and I cannot say I have seen a larger one except possibly in pictures.
They do get big, occasionally, but a 200 pound wolf would be a very unusual animal.

**Had to edit this down and remove a "this is how strong I am" pic as I didn't want to seem a chest thumping yahoo** :)

Well just like Wolves not all guys are built the same either, I'm not trying to start an internet chest thumping spat but I have no problem lifting 200lbs up in front of me, especially in a bear hug. Reference the pictures from Africa of all the guys bear hugging and lifting 160-200lbs Leopards off the ground with a beaming smile. I've seen photos of a PH with a 450lb Lion over his shoulders as well for a picture opportunity (heaved there with help, but there are guys who can lift that on their own).

I believe all those photos could be legitimate. I know for fact the set with the dark wolf are real, as it was shot not far from where I lived and I saw its skull. The one fellow pictured with it is small, maybe 5'6", but the photos are real.

This is me with a good healthy Northern Alberta Timber, I'm 6' in my boots there as a measuring stick, they're big. He was a good bit heavier than my 110lb wife.

I saw ardents pics with wolves.. Somewhat similar... What was in the op is accurate if only to advertise the lodge or setup it was harvested in... I wouldn't actually think any of those pictured tops 160... Which is a big wolf... The two I shot were in the 120 - 130 class and still respectable in profile imop
