This is the fisrt time I will go try to get some coyote around Wainwright
I been authorised to hunt on base by Range ctl this week end

I dont have any E-caller but I was thinking making one as a project using an old iphone and some battery amplified computer speaker If E-Caller are allow wich I think they are now

as for rifle... I was thinking using my 3006 I know its a big bullet for coyote but the alternative is a SKS a Mosin nagant, shotgun or 22's
and my 3006 is the most accurated rifle I own that could shoot past 200 Meter

what strategy are you using, where to put the E-caller in the field
what is the best distance to shoot?????

your ecaller will have to be beside you as you have no remote.... I would go two to three trees deep into the bush overlooking the area you wish to hunt.... call for 10 - 30 seconds on and off... wait 5-10 minutes then call again... after 30-40 minutes of no action move to the next spot and try again....

30-06 is a lot of gun for yotes.... but if it all you have then it is all you have.... shoot as far out as you feel comfortable you can make a clean kill...

nice thanks for the Web site lots of mp3 on there

for the distance, I dont have a remote, but I have a 30 foot long headphone cable that I could use to make some distance between the E caller and I

That would be a great idea... even 30 feet away is better than right beside you.... that being said, a lot of folks use hand calls so not 100% necessary..... be sure to bring a camera so you can share pics of your success with us....

also wondering about the bullet type, should I use FMJ 3006 since the bullet is pretty big it should knok down a coyote good
I am affraid that if I use normal hunintg bullet or bullet that expand the exit wound would be the size of my fist! So FMJ or Expantion,
for sure I wont shoot using 220 Grain bullet I use for moose I have some hornady GMX all copper 150 Grain I think that should be good...

FMJ may not be legal to hunt with in your area...... and if they are be sure of your backdrop due to ricochet possibility....

If you aren't looking to trade firs don't worry about it... just use the expanding rounds... but remember... if you change from 220 to 150 you will have to resight your rifle....

I like to use my 243 or 22-250, but the last few times I went out I took my m1 garands, 30-06 FN mauser, and took out my newly acquired 43" longbranch today but got skunked. I've using the old girls latley just to get them out. I use 150gr fmj for my 06 and it works great, btw jside fmj is only illegal For use on big game in our neck of the woods

A friend of mine does a lot of coyote hunting for fur.(60 to 80 coyotes a season) He only uses his .308 with FMJ. Most of the time it works just fine, but if the bullet keyholes you still get a big mess.
