I am not sure if this the correct place to ask this question?

A gentleman called the other day, he has some Sten parts to sell.
He asked me, "What parts of a Sten can and can not be sold?"
I know lots of things about Stens, but this is one question I could not give an answer.
I was told the only part that could not be sold was the mag assembly. It has the information such as the maker, year of manufacture, and serial number.

In canada it is the mag housing that is the firearm... But in the USA, it is the receiver tube that is the firearm... So beware of US parts kit because the mag housing that is only a part over there can land you in deep trouble over here!! The mag housing is the only part that cannot be legally owned in Canada if it is not registered...

Hi Al, I believe it's just the mag housing on the Mk2 and 5 that's a "NO-NO" and the receiver tube and mag well assembly on the Mk 1 and 3 as they are permanently fixed to each other. Mags must be pinned at 5 rounds. I've seen many Sten bits and pieces sold over the years and never heard anyone ever say anything else was controlled.

Back when you could do such things, I got a parts kit from Canada. The reciever tube was cut just behind the ejector. So the rear reciever now is a section of exhaust pipe from Midas Muffler. Everyone wants to shoot it, but nobody wants to provide the ammo.;)
