why is gunpowder so expensive?

i have been paying 35 a pound, just found a place closer that has it for 30.his bulk bullets are also cheaper.was talking to another reloader who is paying closer to 40 for varget and higher for some of the other imr or hodgens powders.

If I were makeing 49bucks an hour I would not complain either, here in ns powder goes for 38-41 bucks a pound and I have to work almost 3 hours to earn one of those pounds. Man I need to find a better job.

You need to get together with some buds and do an order with higginsons and get yourself a 5 years supply. FS

maybe im just dumb spending hundreds of $ on reloads and shooting?

As opposed to thousands on commercial ammo? While reloading isn't cheap, it is cheaper than shooting factory ammo. If you are worrying about the costs, maybe you need a cheaper hobby? I wish it was free, too, but it isn't and I accept the expense as what it costs to shoot and enjoy a sport I love.

Anywhere else in Calgary will have powder for much less than at Bass Pro. That said, if you really want inexpensive rifle powder, buy surplus WC-735 from Higginson. Shipping is free if you order at least 21 lbs of powder from them.

Same reason divorce is so expensive. Its worth it.

Bass Pro has to be the most expensive option going. Their prices are at least 10-15% higher than WSS on almost anything I have looked at and there are better deals around than WSS if you catch things right.

Between powder being overpriced and you losing so much money on your rifle sales... maybe knitting is a good option. I don't know what the going rate for wool is these days though...

Personally, I don't find shooting sports in general to be overly expensive. I get more out of it than I put in!

Well I was driving from St Albert to the Hat and it was on the way. I was looking for Winchester "AA"s in 12 gauge for the wife, no joy. You are correct the prices are terrible and they direct their sales basicly to hunters. There is very little there to attract competition shooters.
