.222rem recipe for Tikka T3 Varmint

I was shooting off my truck at home! What effect does that have?? With a soft rest.

I used my tailgate to setup a rest for a longtime...been at the range lately but it does work in a pinch...whatever way you can keep it steady on target to take yourself out of the equation. Tight groups.

Ill be keeping an eye on this thread, Ill be shooting a Tikka 222 very soon.

This powder is a bit of dark horse for 222 but Jack O'Connor's load was IMR-4320 with 52gr, bullets. I think the load was 24.5 gr.

good luck then

Thanks for the sarcasm!

That was advice not sarcasm. You would be amazed at how people sight in guns and never learn anything.A truck is like a shooting bench on springs ......think about it.....Have at her.........Harold

Pathfinder,
PM me with your results, once you start load testing your Tikka. I will let ya know what I've got working.

Not the Varmint Model but with my Tikka so far best one for me was 22gr. of BLC-2 behind a 52gr. Speer HP . Havent' even worked up higher yet...this is basically a starting load.

50 gr Hornady SPSX over 20.5gr of 4198.
You will see this load pop up over and over when inquiring about 222 Remington loads.
I have a book around home somewhere about benchrest shooting, back when the 222 was one of the top picks. This load was a widely used load because it works.
I have tried a multitude of loads on my Tikka 222, and now in my Sako 222 heavy barrel, and no matter how many I have tried, this old load remains the best. One that is very close in grouping and velocity is the max load of CFE223 pushing the same Hornady 50gr SPSX's. Close, but still not quite as good.

Ill eventually get this powder to try it. Are we talking about the H or IMR version ?

I've been using the IMR, but have just ordered the H4198 to try. I do see several other reloaders do already use the H4198 in the same 20.5gr load. I will test it out soon and see for myself.

Has anyone compared Lapua brass to other makes for 222 rem ?..have you noticed a difference in accuracy/consitency ? I cant complain about the winchester stuff I have now (i even used some reformed 223) but I picked up some lapua for the hell of it. probably the last brass ill ever need to buy in 222 if rumors are true.

I have a Tikka 222 sporter barrel, it shoots the 55 Hornady Sp [ Bulk from Budget Shooter Supply] very very accuratly with 20 grains of IMR 4198:)
