Hi folks,
Looking for an affordable, readily available red dot for a M4 with magnification.
Never had a red dot before and don't know anything about them. Also, do they typically come with a mounting system ? or is that something I need to look at ?
The rifle will be used at the range and at the most out to 200m. Sorry if this has been asked before, ther's so much information on them and so many choices, I'm overwhelmed.
Thanks for your advice
Mike

hmmm...affordable with magnification rules out the popular Aimpoint brand...the magnifier alone is a few hundred dollars.

Some will come with mounts, some won't. I believe the SPARC might have everything you are looking for. A couple hundred dollars, has some magnification, mount included, and holds up pretty well from what people say about it.

I think Leupold also now has a red dot, but its more of a scope. Maybe I'm wrong about the brand, but there is another one thats becoming more popular.

Shooting out to 200m shouldn't require magnification - any dot will do (for that matter I was shooting a 10.5 at 250 on Monday with irons, a good habit to get into). If you're set on a scope with magnifcation, that has a dot reticle and illuminates, the Millett DMS works well - it's actually a "Donut of Death" reticle, but works as a dot at 1x and gives some precision at 4x. you'll need a mount - either the ADC or the Burris PEPR will work fine.

Yea I believe that Vortex SPARC comes with a 2x screw on magnifier... Probably the most affordable optic of decent quality

Yes, Leupold has the prismatic! Its a true 1x fixed optic, with an illuminated reticle, which is also etched onto the glass.

the Vortex Sparc is $219.99 with a 10% discount for CGN members at DS Tactical. it comes with a low and high riser mount, plus a 2X magnifier.

great deal...

Looks like exactly what I'm looking for, can't see spending big bucks for a gun/scope that I only use at the range, Thanks

My eyes need a bit of help sometimes...My friend has a Millett on the way, sounds like a good one,I'll be checking it out, Thanks

I was just looking at that on his site, wish I knew about the discount 3 flashlights ago , Thanks, my next question was going to be "who's got the best deal ?":)

Thanks everyone, appreciate your input, I'll post some pics when the rifle and scope arrive !

T-1 Aimpoint or S&B short dot 1-4x

Some might say the Aimpoint is affordable, especially for how well built they are. And the money you'll save on batteries :) ...but the S&B short dot is affordable?? Not for most.
I'd recommend the Vortex Strikefire or Sparc. Depending on the size of sight and moa dot you want. Both come with the 2x magnifier, are inexpensive and solid warranty.
