Need to sight my '51 and 54. Both have UTG mounts and bug stomper 3-9x27 scopes. I have a bushnell laser sighter that mounts into the muzzle, but it is difficult to see past 50 yards. I can do it at night, I live on a country road and there is a stop sign 650 meters down the road. I can measure the letter heights and figure out where to aim to line up tha laser and the cross hair My question, where to aim, how much would be trajectory change at 200 and 650? The range I was at last weekend had a 200 yard bunker with a bell, a good target

that is ridiculous to try and use the laser from that distance. use it to get dialed in at 25 yards and you should be 3 inches high at 100 yards and right around perfect at 200. after you get your sight dialed at 25 decide where you want to zero. zero at 100 is common i like the zero at 200 idea. you just have to aim 3 inches low at ranges of 100 yards but it gives you a decent hit zone for everything from point blank to 250 yards. if you aim dead on and fire dead on your shots should be within a 10 inch pie plate... if your sks is of decent quality.

this chart shows it all.

no worries man the laser is just to get you on paper after that you do 3 shot groupings from a vice and then adjust your sights to the center of that grouping. should be good to go after that. as you can see from the chart at 650 yards the bullet drop is 200 inches...or 16 1/2 feet good luck hitting anything at that distance

lol, no I dont want to hit anything at 650 yards, i just thought about using the reflective sign on the street to help me sight the scope. I was thinking if I am 3" high at hundred then at 600 I would be 18 high. Just to set the scope not to hit anything. I'll set it at 25. Thanks again

not a problem learning the ballistics of your rounds is the key to sighting in. think of it like a cannon ball arcing thru the air.the 7.62 x 39 round in these charts rises 4 1/2 inches at 100 yards and then drops from there. also there is the curvature of the earth's surface lol j/k

I thought a sks shot a little further than the chart shows :(

Sure, she does! 650? don't know what to tell you...but mine was set for 100yds,and we put a 18" x 32" steel plate out there at 500yds.Was able to hit it 5 oft 10 times...holding 2,5 yards over (and yes the 1/8" plate was still penetrated...deep dent, then hole...300 Win mag:eek:nly hole, too fast for dents)

yeah well the sights show up to 800 meters lol at 800 yards you are dropping almost 400 inches thats like 33 feet so it will go the distance but not accurately. the wind that would also affect it.100 yards is pretty far though not by sniper standards but at 100 yards you can barely see your 1ft by 1 ft target thru the iron sights and no way you can get a bulls eye consistently with that kind of sight. better sights get you better accuracy. but at 800 meters i doubt you can even pick out an animal or any target for that matter with out 10x binoculars. so i don't know why the ruskies wanted 800 meter sights. the graphic is also not very good as far as it shows a much more exaggerated arc 100 yards equals 3600 inches so if it was shown to scale it would look better but would be hard to show the smaller graduations of drop or rise. but the bullet travels 3600 inches and rises 3 inches above line of sight in that distance and by 7200 inches(200 yard) it has dropped back down to the line of sight. and by 10800 inches (300 yard) it has dropped 14 inches. so it travels 10800 to drop 14. just hold over your target 14 inches high at 300 and you should be close. and 300 is really far really really far. damn i wrote a novel sorry bout that ;)
