Mystery ammo.

Is this x54, x39, or x25?

I am of the opinion that crates of spam cans should remained sealed until needed, but I do need to know what is in the case/can.

The reference to 880 suggests to me that this is two spam cans of 440 each of 7.62x54. If so, can you tell if it is the light or heavy bullet?

I am going to say it's the standard 147gr. FMJ. I don't think they made heavy and light ball. They would have just made the one, otherwise it would cause different POI for all the weapons that us it.

But know I have another question on the same topic. How are the cans sealed? Are the cans vacaum sealed? Did they inject some inert gas to replace the oxygen? etc etc

Nope, they make heavy ball for long range machine gun use. I have a couple of cans of Hungarian heavy ball. Yellow tipped, I believe. Cans are just soldered closed, no fancy gases.

Thanks. According to the Russian translation guide, I have 880 rounds of 7.62x54r of light steel core ammo, not on stripper clips.

I will mark that on the cases with a felt marker.

Isn't CGN wonderful?
