Just wondering if anyone knows of a company that makes high visibility hulls, say, in the 12 gauge fluorescent orange or green (or even pink!) variety? I'm currently using rxps and they get lost in the nice grass on the skeet fields sometimes, but mostly they disappear into thin air on the sporting clays range.

My old man uses AAs, and they're red, but they tend to blend in with all the fired federal and winchester hulls. I'm looking for something that i will be able to see, so it doesn't take me 15 minutes to find 30 hulls on the sc range :S

The best i've been able to find is fiocci, and they're orange, but don't look like a bright or fluorescent, but rather dull. At any rate, I can't find a canadian retailer that carries them.

Any ideas? (note: growing a pair of eyes or getting some glasses doesn't count as an idea :))

I'm not sure about putting paint into the chamber of my shotgun. It's a Beretta 391 Teknys Gold Sporting, and i somehow feel that there shouldn't be painted hulls in there.

I thought about the pink breast cancer hulls, but they're steel. I'd love some nice, fluorescent orange brass hulls :S

Oh, and switching guns is not an option :) I can't get used to two triggers on a sxs, and somehow, an o/u just feels wrong to me. too short in the butt, perhaps, but i've tried shooting a multitude of over unders, and I can't shoot them worth beans :)

Remington STS Gold hulls are quite a fetching shade of gold. They're probably the most obvious looking shells I've seen, although they're hardly fluorescent. That said, I don't think folks make fluorescent shells since we're shooting fluorescent targets... could be a little distracting. Why not get a hull catcher? MultiCatch makes one that'll grab two hulls. Then you'll never need to look for a hull again.

Are all your shots doubles

I don't follow... no, they're not. Skeet is 2 singles and a double on stations 1, 2, 6 and 7 without leaving the pad, or 2 singles from other stations. I don't see how this makes a difference regarding hull visability :S Hulls cannot be picked up until after the round is over anyway.

I'm looking at the multi catch, and i have a few problems with it. First, it's fugly. Second, it is held on with double sided tape. Thirdly, i've seen various shell catchers in use, and they all have a few problems. Ones that hold the hulls next to the ejection port, i've seen prevent a shell from ejecting properly, effectively forcing a stovepipe on the second round, or even worse, on the first, preventing the second round from loading. The bags that strap on catch everythign nicely, but i worry about balance and peripheral vision being blocked by the bag.

ANYWAY, i guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open for some fiocci ammo or hulls, and maybe some sts golds. I find it wierd that nobody makes hulls that are more visible.

I was asking that to see if a shell catcher would grab at least the singles for you. I know very well what skeet and even Trap are but you said sporting clays. I have shot sporting clays pending how the club is set up various combinations some with no singles which is why I asked. I have used shell catchers on three different makes of semi over the years and they all did their job but none were this double catch that is new to me.One guy at the clug just uses a rubber band and that works great on his style of gun.
On the ugly part I would be more concerned with retreiving the hulls than looking pretty but hey that is up to you.take care oh yes the sts gold are called Premier Nitro 27 on the box

Aah, yes... now I understand :) At the Charlottetown club, there's 5 stations with 2 doubles and one single at each.

If the same place I shot there many times back in the day. No sporting clays then.
I think we would go over for a KNIFE shoot they called it or maybe that was Pictou. I could be wrong the old mind is not what it once was but I am not wrong about how good the lobsters were all the time. take care:)

FWIW I like the grey AA HS hulls. Most of the ammo shot at my club seems to be red so the red AA tends to blend right in - OTOH factory target stuff is so cheap these days it's hardly worth reloading it...

MWJones: The Federal pink 'breast cancer' shotshells are loaded with lead shot, not steel. The base of the hull is plated steel, however.

The paint once dried is very durable and doesn't come off. I used a rattlecan for high heat. I forgot the brand but it worked well in my semis. I painted my slug hulls so I'd never mix them up. Nitro 27's are a nice gold that shows well and the hulls are great for reloading
