Hey folks. I have been loading 9mm with Titegroup (for a G17 and G34) and it is decent. The pistols function well enough with it.

That said, I was thinking of trying something else and I am looking for some recommendations. I am finding that the Titegroup leaves some good burn marks on the outside of fired cases that are hard to clean off. It also doesn't take up too much space in the case, which makes an overcharge easier.

I am not trying to make major or anything here. I am just looking for a powder that will meter well in a Dillon measure (something spherical I suppose) that burns fairly clean, will function the gun well, will fill the case well and produces accurate 9mm bullets (I am loading 124g zero JHP's at the moment).

Do any of you more experience reloaders have some recommendations? Thanks!

Not really, I use Titegroup for the G34 with a 125gr LRN @ 3.8 and Titegroup for the 625-3 with a 230 gr LRN @ 3.8

Using the same charge and powder for both calibers makes me happy :D
 
Haha fair enough. I am using 4-4.1g for a 124g JHP and it shoots fine. Just wish it filled the case a bit more and didn't leave burn marks on the outside of the case after firing. Are you also getting the burn marks?

when you tumble your brass throw a little hoppes no9 in there butches bore shine works good too!
 
Similar to Titegroups, only cleaner and better metering: VV N320

Commonly available, good case fill and metering, excellent accuracy: Power Pistol

One of my most accurate loads is 5.4 gr. Power Pistol with a 124 gr. bullet (Win RN or XTP).
 
A lot of folks find Power pistol dirty, but i use it and love it... Also trying some VV3N38 for both 9mm and 10mm... The VV powder seems very clean burning but the price is pretty steep.
 
I have heard good things about VV 320 for 9mm, but it is a bit more costly. Not that big a deal to me if it meters well and burns a bit cleaner too. Have you folks tried it?
 
I know a lot of people aren't big fans of it but I'm really enjoying bullseye. Fills the case right up.

vhit n320 for 9mm std.bbl, 40sw and 45, Higginson powder sells them. been using it since 1990's.

Powder makes up such a small cost of pistol loads (especially in a 9mm) that it hardly makes a difference. It works out to being about $8 more per 1000 rounds compared to Titegroup.

Yeah I would have to load an obscene amount for that to really matter.

That said - how do you guys find VV320 with respect to how well it fills the case? One of my issues with the Titegroup is that it is so compact and takes so little space. Does the 320 take up a little more volume in the case?
 
What about winchester 231/HP38 (I read that they are the same thing). Has anyone used that for 9mm? Does it burn clean? Fill the case?
 
Where do you get n320? I went through pound of TG. It measures rather well, but dirty as hell. Recoil is snappier. Clays (Ouch!!!) is awesome on the other side, except measuring (big flakes) clean, recoils like 22 :-D and cheap. But it makes me little uncomfortable with all this pressure spikes stuff often found on forums. So I would like to try n320 but have never seen in stores in Vancouver area.

I am not sure where you get VV320 out your way. In Ontario, higginson powders carries it. You may be able to have them ship some to you, but I am not sure what the cost would be. If you did that you would prolly have to buy alot to justify it.

I use HP38 under a 125gr LRN. Fills the case pretty well and is easy to see a double charge. not terribly dirty but is pretty smokey.

I have used W231 and 700X. I only shoot my own cast and I tend to use light loads to conserve powder and allow myself to use softer alloys.

With a 125 grain bullet, both both powders shoot well with W231 being quite dirty and 700X cleaner. 700X pretty much fills the case with mid range loads while W231 still has some space. The Winchester powder measures very well with the 700X being a little coarser.

Of note, most powders will burn cleaner as you increase the load or move up to a heavier bullet.
