Where are the long range ranges?

There are two places.

One is near Erieau and east of Hamilton.

Up to 1000 yards.
I do not think you can just show up and practice at the range. There is a schedule for the range for guest to use.

You can join the Ontario Rifle Association and get access some military ranges and other long range ranges, most commonly CFB Borden, which has up to 1000 yard or meters (not sure off hand). Take a look at their website. They have range days where anyone can come out and try Long Range shooting on for size. You don't even need a rifle for that. They supply it and everything else you need for a very reasonable $50. Full memberships range from $157 - $257 per year.

ORA have events at several DND ranges in Ontario. Borden being number 1 for most activities using several ranges out to 1000 yards. CFB Kingston out to 600 yards and Winona and Cedar Springs going back to 400m.

There is a Winter program that will start shortly, but you must be a member of the ORA or BRRC. Intro Days are one day events usually held in Borden. Like Stephen1546 said, you do not need to be a member to attend an Intro Day, however you need to pre book if you plan to attend.

I had not heard of any ranges of that distance in those locations, can you provide more details? I'm curious.

He is taking about Winona and Cedar Springs. Winona was 800 yards now reduced to 400m. Cedar Springs was 1000 yards then reduced to 600 yards, now reduced to 400m.

Ahhh, cool. Thanks. I thought I was missing out on some gems. Of course, it is hard to beat my 30 min travel time to Borden so I don't know if I will be using ranges in that neck of the woods much......of course the 2012 sched is not out yet either....so I may.

::Jealous:: I think Borden is like a 2 hour drive for me. :p

^^^Both of you can bite me:p Borden is a 4+ hour drive for me:mad: But that doesn't stop me from getting up there at least once a month. Cedar Springs is only 17Km from my door. Use to be a very nice 1000 yard range until the DND started to improve it.

Kind of makes one wish they had kept issuing a 7.62x51 service rifle. Perhaps Cedar Springs would still be a 1000 yard range?

Soldiers are only required to qualify once a year and only need to do their PWT. No distance greater than 300m. They have built a jungle gym and repel tower down the middle of the range. Then built a sea can village and FOB on the right side, that would be in the danger area at longer distance.
