Hi Folks !

I just want experiance reloaders advise.
I will reload 8mm Mauser and i want to know the prefered grain for this particular caliber. I want to develope an accurate load with soft point bullet and i don't know where to start.
I saw some 150 grains, soft point bullet for sales. Are they great to start with or an heavyer bullet is more accurate ??

What rifle....The older mausers like heavy bullets. the 175gr. Sierra was very accurate for me. A lot of others shooting 180-200 gr. The hornady 196 (?) would be a good one to try. I never tried the 150's, they should work well, depends what you are working up the load for.
 
Mine shoots exceptionally well with Vihtavouri N 150 powder and the Nosler 180 gr. Ballistic Tip.
Hornady and Sierra bullets of about the same weight also shoot very well with more than adequate accuracy for hunting.
Another good powder in mine is IMR 4064...
 
I have a Yugo 8mm Mauser that likes 170gr Hornady soft points and IMR4350. In all honesty, i have not tried much else. The ballistics meet my hunting needs and the load groups nice within my distances for hunting. I reload from Remington ammunition that had satisfactory results also in the 170gr bullet.
 
the original load was a 196- close enough to call it a 200- i've fired the norma thorough my '98 and the recoil was pretty stout, even with the late war slim stock- the stuff you get over here are basically low loads not meant for the 98, but the 88- you can basically load for the same as a 200 grain 06
 
just got back from the range, where I "initiated" my"new" Yugo M48 A.

My load consists of the readily available Speer 170grs Soft Point over 39 grs of Varget.
This load shoots dead centre from my rifle, and with a steady rest you can keep all shoots in one single hole at 50m (was cold today, and I didn't want to walk to far).

It's realy appreciated to know wath you use. Thanks for the powder suggestion too.
I will start with either IMR 4350 or 4064 (according to availability) and i will try to get 170grain bullet and work from there.
