.45 ACP large or small primers??

Re-loading newbie,which is more common Large pistol primers or Small pistol primer for .45 ACP.
I have 2 1911's one made in 1917 and one made in 2009 and I have both primer feeders for my press so it is not a problem just wondering???
 
Most of the small primers I have seen were used in the Winclean bullets I picked up at ranges. They sure were clean after firing. I just use LPP as the brass is more plentiful. Not sure if one is actually "better" than the other.

BDX lead-free ammo for indoor range use also uses the small primers. It seems like the lead-free primers are only manufactured in SPP size.

From what I have seen the small primer brass goes for less and is considered less desireable. I haven't bought any brass for a while, though and things could have changed since then.

If you decide to reload other calibers, 40-small primer, 9-small primer, 38.357=small primer, You could save time in caliber changes by getting small primer 45's
 
It used to be that you did not have to check 45acp primers --->SIZE

Now you do

it can be a problem finding one of the wrong size when you are loading the other size

In A Progressive press you will have a jam or powder/primer falling out or worse
 
When Federal switched over to lead free primers, they started 45acp with small primers. Commonality with other calibers, reduced inventory, less tooling costs. I suppose other companies mentioned above have done similar.

Large primers are still most common. I have a bucket for brass filtered out during sorting and cleaning due to small primers. I intend to load them when bucket gets full.
 
.45 Auto was made exclusively with large primer pockets for 90 years. The small primer sizes only started appearing about 5 years ago or a bit more. Thus, there are far more large primer .45s out there than small.
