Most accurate takedown 22 LR....

Just wondering what you guys use as a takedown 22 lr and do you find it accurate, myself i have a Marlin Papoose and it is very accurate .5 at 50 metres... Cheers .JP.

My Papoose is the same. 4x scope and it will shoot .5" with cci standard at 50m from a rest... if I do my part.

Marlin Papoose, My Dad had one since i was a kid, i have shot that gun so much! I have never been disappointed in it

Group size isn't the only issue, some of these guns may group well, but the group moves around relative to the line of sights.

I'm very happy with my Marline 39M as an accurate .22lr takedown. At one time I had a Browning .22 Auto that was very good as well

Good point. That's why I couldn't stand my AR-7 because everytime I took the barrel off and remounted it, I had to re-zero the gun.

This is another check for the Papoose. Even between takedowns the most the POI has shifted on mine is about 1/4" at 50m. But it's usually bang on.

Here is a 14 round coldbore group i shot at 50m right after mounting the barrel. The previous session it had been zeroed and the POI moved about 1/4" to the right. I have since figured out that if I torque the barrel in the same direction as the Knurled locknut while I'm tightening it down, I don't get any shift in POI.

How big is the papoose in its case? The reason I ask is because all 3 of my backpacks are 18 inches tall, and my AR7 fits perfectly.

I never had the POI issue that you experienced, but sometimes the front sight will shift if it touches something and you can't hit a thing. Lost a grouse last year to that. Now I make sure every time I put the barrel on, and before I shoot to check that it's in place. I may just glue it on there so I don't have to worry.

Maybe I'm just an AR7 fanboy, but after about 5 bricks of ammo I've never had a jam and only one FTF, which went off when I put it in my JW-25a. I'm using CCI Blazer.

I guarantee that is much more than most AR-7 owners (current or previous) can say. I think you got lucky and bought a good one.

The Papoose is 19.25" long taken down, so it wont fit in your pack. The AR-7 is definately a wee bit more compact, but having owned both i just felt the Papoose was soo much better accuracy wise, reliability, more comfortable to shoot, has a real stainless steel barrel not a liner wrapped in teflon, and the fact that it held it's zero scoped, i sold the AR-7.

Don't get me wrong, some people get good ones and love them to bits. Mine just didn't cut it in terms of build quality or performance.

As far as transportability, i have a rather tall pack i take on my boating/camping trips and the papoose gets strapped to the side in it's case with the ammo inside and a small cleaning kit.

That was the other thing that became an issue for me... when the AR-7 was inside my pack, it took up too much room (for my liking) which I normally used for other necessities.
