Shorten PAL Approval Times

About those "Stamped" results...

I took and passed the non-restricted course in May 07...before the whole "Stamping" thing started. But I've only just sent an application with results to the CFC on the 11th.

I was unaware of the CFO having to stamp the results until a few days ago after reading through this thread.

I'm guessing this will hold it up, and add a ton more time to the process?

Or will they see I did it before that started...and let it slide?

Your CFO hijacks the test results in the current process but you already have your test results. As far as the CFC is concerned you have met the requirements by submitting an application with test results, so you should not have any issues there.
However final approval comes from your CFO and they may tell you that you need to meet current requirements to get their approval.

Is it advisable to call and see if I can be transferred so I can speak with the CFO in BC as my application is there for final approval? Or should I wait for that 45 days to be up?

Call and ask.
The 45 days is not a definite line in the sand (the original 28, is).

What are the online statuses after "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date. "? Does the application stay in this status until the 28 day period is up regardless of whether interviews are done? Or does it move to a different status once interviews are complete?

Once your application goes online (about 11-15 days after they get it), call immediately. Let them know why yours isn't stamped. It's my understanding that some testers were caught passing students who had failed. If your instructor was accused of this, you may be required to retake the test.

Just curious... why did you wait 4, almost 5 years???

So if it makes it through the CFC to the CFO...what do you think I should expect?

Like Noltz said I should, I'll be calling the CFC for sure, once it goes online, to let them know why I don't have the CFO's stamp.

Wonder if I should call the CFO and let him know that there might be an application and what not without his stamp, due to me not knowing it was required now...or just wait until it makes it to him?

As for my instructor, I've done a search on him and he seems good. Found a few posts from here about him.

I've also done one on the examiner, can't find anything on him right now..but I saw he did something with local cops awhile back.

And for your question Noltz, I was a minor when I took the course, never got around to sending in for it. Then I thought I might as-well just wait until I turn 18..then another year passed, then another...until I finally got around to it on the 11th.

Thank you both for the replies.

Thanks! I called today and was transferred to the BC CFO, they were busy, so I had to leave a voice message. They called back a couple hours later, asked me about the job I lost in 2010 and then approved it!

The last status is "Your licence has been issued......".
If the interveiws have been done, phone and check your status. If it is at your provincial CFO for final review, give them a call. This works, 100%.

<trimmed for length>

I doubt it'll go through the CFC without an explanation. You're going to need to intercept it at that point. Standard procedure is to call you once, then mail you a letter to say they called and you should call them. They won't leave voicemails apparently. But any application, in error or not, will show up on their system. It is at that point you can call, and explain anything that needs explaining.

I had a friend who applied for a non-restricted after a criminal conviction (no-contest). It was several years earlier, but s/he was honest about it and after answering a few questions on the matter their license was issued here in Bantario. You're is much simplier. I think your biggest question to answer is "why 5 years?". Hell, I'm happy if I can keep track of my tax returns for that long, nevermind a course report :)

Good luck with your application!

My application has been processed and license issued.
Guess I'll put up my timeline as well:

  • November 27 – Passed CFSC & CRFSC (here in BC we get test results immediately after the test)
  • December 5 – Application mailed (regular mail)
  • December 12 – Application received
  • January 6 - My interview & first reference interview done (second reference got called but didn't answer)
  • January 17 - Second reference interview done
  • January 17 - License Issued
I didn't make any calls to them. So if my second reference had answered the phone on the 6th my license could have been issued right at 28 days (January 9). Good service.

EDIT: January 25 - Card arrived in the mail today. Woohoo! Going shopping! :D

Your lucky i took my test on Dec 10th and still haven't got my results back

Here is my time line for my rpal application :

Nov. 4, 5, 6. took non restricted and restricted cources passed them both.
Waited for stamped test results I didn`t know I could send the application in without them. Sent application by registered mail on Dec. 8 recieved by RCMP on Dec.12. Called on Jan. 10 did my interview asked my references to call which they did on Jan. 11. Called CFO on the 12th they said everything looks good I will give your application to a supervisor and hopefully get it approved today. Jan. 13 web site still says application still in progress. Called again and they put me through to supervisor then goes to voicemail. Called again today they told me I have to talk to this supervisor because I answered yes to one of the security questions. I have suffered a job loss was the question I answered yes to. I will call back tomorrow and try to sort it out. Hopefully I can get a hold of the supervisor and convince her I can be a responsible firearn owner in spite of losing my job

THis is what I get at the website,my references and I were talked to in December.

Application Received on: 2011/10/28

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

I should mention that this is a restricted upgrade in Ontario.

just called CFO they said I am going to have to wait at least another month think I will just forget it and find a different hobby kind of ridiculous when you think I spent my time and money to take the cource and already paid the fee for the licence I`m out

Test completed Nov 27 Rpal approved Jan 12. Now time to wait for my Sig P226. Hopefully the registration process doesn't take 8-10 days like the guy at the gunshop said.

Hello all. I have spent some time reading through most of this and so far my process has been good.

Ontario app (PAL only) sent in with results: Dec 22nd 2011
Recieved Jan 3rd: (holidays)

I called afew times and everything is good. My form was sent off yesterday or this morning to the ontario CFO (jan 18th). Just wondering how long should I wait before calling them? I dont know if they fax it, mail or what not. I know it says to keep on them but I hate to call so much and bug! Thanks.

I would call today and if they tell you it's not ready yet (or not received) ask them, nicely, "So, when do you suggest I check back with you?"

Never hurts to be polite. Our CFO ladies, even when they follow (crazy) procedures as dictated to them, are nice and pleasant.

Thanks 3strokes.

Did you contact them when you were doing it? What number did you call to reach them if the RCMP office won't transfer you.
