I've just bought my self an other sks but I want to keep this one unfired. So to keep it clean and in the best "collectable" shape should I remove the cosmoline ? Or just put her in the safe full of cosmo ?

Thank you

full of cosmo in a garbage bag

That is what I tought (leave it full of cosmo) but the annoying part of this "processus" of storage it's that the gun cannot be handle without having his hands full pf crappy grease. Will the gun deteriorate in time if the cosmoline is fully or partially removed?

If you keep it free from moisture, and wipe off any finger prints after handling then you can take the cosmo off and play with it all you want....but then again you can handle and play with the one you shoot.

After toughts you are right I will play with the one I shoot and leave my "new" one in cosmo.

clean the cosmo and coat it in axle grease then get a length of 4 inch or 6 inch abs or pvc plastic pipe with 2 end caps and pack the greasy whore into it. then toss it in the attic and forget about it.

Not that I've had personal experience; but I remember reading someone using 15W40 Diesel oil and filling up the PVC pipe. Not sure if the cleaning additives would affect the wood.

why not just strip it down, store the parts in a container with oil or mineral spirits or etc, grease up the receiver and store the stock, receiver and parts in a bag or case?
