So I just bought 3 boxes of these (first ammo I buy in my life to shoot my first gun later this week, so bear with me). They are supposed to be 9mm Luger, FMJ 115gr. Paid $15.59+tx for each box of 50 at Al Flaherty's in Toronto.

Browsing through them, I rapidly notice that they really don't look all the same. There seem to be 3 different sizes in there, most of em being the middle one. They are head stamped, somewhat randomly with no relation to size, with a 2 different markings. Some of them are "Win 9mm LUGER" (what I expected), but most are just "WCC II".

This raises the following questions:
- Are they even all 9x19?
- What's WCC II / how can I find out what an obscure marking mean?
- How about the size? Could it be a mix of 115gr, 124gr, 147gr?
- Is that normal?
- Would you still shoot those, or should I bring them back?

Thanks in advance...

Monkeys on the assembly line? Wow that is some crappy looking s**t! I just bought several hundred rounds of .40 much of it Winchester. Do I now have to examine every cartridge?

They should all be marked "Win" which they obviously aren't. It appears you have a box of someones reloads. Take them back to the seller, not safe to shoot as you have no idea what or how much powder they have, not to mention the mismatched bullet seating. JUNK rounds.

You should bring them back, the sitting depth is not even, two of them sit too deep and too don't sit deep enough; the case looks like reloads more than factory ammo. Buy american eagle and forget the white box.

I will not use them. Looks like there are multiple tool marks on the base of the casing. Like a reload that was seated badly. The fact that the lengths are not consistent, I would not even try loading them into the magazine. A 9mm Luger round shoud be consistent with length (within a certain tolerance) regardless of the bullet weight to fit into a standard magazine. Go back to Al Flahertys and ask for a replacement.

OP here. Taking them back was my 1st reflex but I was worried that I was just uselessly freaking out (them being the 1st ammo I buy) and that this was par the course.

They are going back to Flaherty's tomorrow.

Thank you everyone.

The gun dealers that I deal with have a [No Return] policy on ammo on the assumption that it is new ammo, that stuff has been around the block several times.

Take them back. That is fraud. i can't see the OAL of the shortest one there, but if you were to discharge it, there could be pressures that can double (danger hot). Refund, or call the ammo cops.

Wow that's messed up. Makes me wonder what the heck is going on at that store. I doubt this falls on Winchester.

Very interested to hear what they have to say about this.

Not necessarily reloads - WCC is the headstamp used for US Gov 9mm produced by Winchester under contract. Looks like the primers are crimped in - pretty hard for a reloader to crimp in a primer. It would appear, however that you got the leftovers - looks like 115, 124 and 147 Ball in the same box - have you weighed the rounds, that would let you know in a hurry. Either way, that shouldn't have left the plant like that - I'd take it back too. Second look, some of those ARE reloads  looks like someone's sh*t ammo collection. Unreal.
