Open sights /Battle Sights M-14

The ghost ring on the M-14 is tried and true.
However, my eyesight is different. I find open sights easier for me to acquire, range and target more accurately than the ghost sights.
Has anyone opted to put an open rear adjustable sight on their Norinco M-14?
Is it possible?
 
An Ultimak handguard might make it possible.

Before you go and ### up a perfectly good battle rifle with tacticaninjitsu nonsense (and drop hundreds of dollars) look into a larger diameter aperture.
You can find them all over. The M1A rear sight assembly was produced with a larger hole diameter aperture if you can find one. The diameter of the hole is just a bit bigger but it makes a hell of a difference. Goes from tight and restrictive, to wide open and "you can see everything" around. Very easy to acquire your target and keep situational awareness.
It would be worth a try for about $20. If you can't find one, you could always pick up a spare Norc aperture and drill the hole wider. Remember though, a little goes a long way so trial and error slowly as you increase the bit gauge.
I actualy went the opposite direction, I picked up an M1A rear assembly. Came with the wide diamtere aperture. I am switching back to the tighter norc aperture (keeping the springfield dials and base though :D). When my eyes start going I'll switch back to the wide diameter one.
 
I shot my buddy's SKS yesterday and the open rear leaf sights were a relief. I obtained the target and shot pretty consistently. Its just my style.
The ghost sights are not for me.
Has anyone incorporated similar open sights as the SKS on to a Norinco M-14?
It is the rear sight I want to tinker with. I love the adjustable elevation on the SKS.... similar to a Lee-Enfield rear Leaf sight.
Anyone??

It's funny that most SKS owners hate the factory rear sight, and find it difficult to shoot with. Most actually upgrade to tech sights, which is what you want to get away from. The only thing that might be a downside (for you) to mounting a regular open sight (besides finding one that will work) to something like the ultimak is you'll be losing sight radius.

For some unknown reason... I'm deadly with it. It just FEELS comfortable to me.
My personal error is instinctively compensated with those sights. I can take almost any rifle.. shoot a few rounds and instinctively compensate.
 
Have someone tig weld the aperture hole, then "V notch" the aperture. Might not be the perfect solution but it just might work, and save you some cash.
P.s. I bought that usgi parts kit you wanted so if you want the build done still, p.m. Me ;)

I've not forgotten. I hope to pull a rabbit out of the hat in the next day or two ...max. I owe you for being patient.
 
You guys are right.
Since my previous post I've modified a couple apertures for testing purposes. I didn't weld either of em.
Cut the top 1/3 almost 2/5 of the aperture, the one i V notched and the other is cut, fiLled with steel epoxy, then a nice narrow slot cut. I'll see if they work over the next week or so.
