Breaking in a barrel

Damn, "Best gun for bear defence," just lost out. That thread and "How to break in a new barrel," were running neck and neck as to the subject getting the most threads.
Bear defence thread is now running second!

You want me to start one on bear defense guns to even things up?

I was going to break it in just like the video says but I don't know if it has a bull barrel or a cow barrel. How can I tell the difference? It has no antlers so I'm assuming cow barrel?? But it is mid January so maybe its shed them already.

Clean it really well and go out and shoot it. That's it. No magic or voodoo to it.

Bulls dont have antlers either. Cows can have horns too btw

I was hoping someone would say that because thats what I did to my BLR. I cleaned it, fired a box of bullets through it and cleaned it again. Wasn't until yesterday I heard about breaking in the barrel so I thought I'd try it on this one.

Shoot one and clean...repeat for 10 shots.
Shoot 3 and clean.....repeat for 15 shots
Now hunt, target practice or whatever.
Doesn't necessarily make them any more accurate, just easier to clean. [Less fouling]
Eagleye.

shoot it for a few yrs or decades, when it becomes inaccurate enough to P you off big time, clean it thoroughly, then carry on shooting, and you may wanna clean it again lightly just before passing it on to your youngest Grand-son, or in my case, Grand-daughter!

Check out ultra-bore tech UBC - there is even a youtube video on how to apply it. However, it is now called Dyna-Bore TECH. Based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews on the 24hourcampfire about this product, I tried it and it made cleaning my BLR .308 much easier faster to clean (as did Tubbs Final Finish which I used on my Rem700 .300WSM). I subsequently coated my Rem700 barrel as well -just because I had a lot of Dyna-Bore TECH leftover. My cleaning is basically brushless/all-chemical now - remove copper without any brushing whatsoever (as confirmed by using my Outers Foulout III system).

As for improving accuracy, a recent article in either Handloader or Rifle magazine seemed to conclude breaking-in a rifle was a waste of time as far as improving accuracy was concerned.

Hard to tell untill you shoot it a bit, it may be a bum steer.
