Bump Fire Stock

They were demoing them at shot show today. It was . . . weird. Beyond the fact that we can't play with them, it just seemed like a lot of effort to do something barely worthwhile.

Especially when you factor in our 5 round mags.

Prohibited device on a prohibited rifle.

What thoughts were you looking for?

Not true - NOT a prohibited device. The AR15 version has been discused at great length in other threads. There is no reason for this stock to be illegal, as it does not violate the letter of Canadian law... it violates the SPIRIT of the law, but all that matters is the LETTER of the law. Quite a number of the AR15 bump-fire stocks made it to Canada last year, before SlideFire stopped shipping them here.

I'd love to see one for the Vz58 - I'd buy one, just on general principles, because it falls through a loophole and is not technically illegal. Despite that fact, though, I don't doubt that CBSA has been told to grab any that come through the border....

I`ve tried one on a 9mm AR and they are pretty good considering - very controllable and it dumped a 32 round mag in seconds. Getting one to run on a light AR in 22lr would be the trick to having some fun.

While not technically illegal apparently a memo was recently circulated to the border services people to be on the look out, furthermore these would be ITAR regulated so it`s not even worth thinking about. The way the RCMP and anti-gun media are feeling at the moment, one whiff of this will push the AR and other semi-autos one step closer to being reclassified to prohibited status. Anyone tempting to play with one of these north of the line would be highly irresponsible and not be doing us any favors.

I agree. I've always had a problem with this bump firing trick because it's all the more ammo for the anti's to use to push their semi-auto banning agenda. I wouldn't be surprised if Wendy and Co. have something about bump firing on their website (I can never stomach looking). I enjoy my AR's and my VZ's, I do occasionally let a string of 10 rounds go out of my AR for the fun of it, but I don't do anything to draw negative attention to myself. I enjoy my hobby and sport without fear, but at the same time common sense is warranted.

Yes, heaven forbid that we should discharge shots more rapidly than normal. That defies common sense.

In fact, why bother having semi automatics at all? We aren't in the military, we don't need to shoot at dozens of enemy soldiers. We should ban anything but single shot rifles. That is much more reasonable and less likely to draw attention.

Sorry but this is EXACTLY the kind of thing the antis want us to do. Hide and cower and be fearful of letting loose in a legal, safe, and controlled fashion because it doesn't suit THEIR skewed ideologies. If I want to bump fire a case of 1K rounds and I'm doing it safely and with due regard for my environment and people in it then that is my prerogative.

In fact, the Slidefire stock helps keep it UNDER control because you're not doing it from the hip. It is, in fact, a safety device.

Look bud, you're missing my point here. I'm for enjoying our hobby without fear as much as you are. In fact, if I had it my way, true machine guns would normal and acceptable by society for every CGN to own AND shoot. ON or OFF their private property or a range. Just like down in the USA. Normal cap mags and all. As well as sound suppressors. And you are right, it is perfectly legal to buy a case of ammo and bump fire all day long. Fun as it is with these 5 and....oh please stop me....10 round mags "pistol" mags we're allowed to have up here by our political betters.
I prefer to shoot my guns SAFELY and in a fashion that isn't going to warrant unwanted attention from the police or the media. You like explaining yourself over and over to some gun-law clueless cop? Fine. I don't. Nor do I like the idea of having my guns seized so they can determine whether or not my "bad scary black" firearm is an "illegally converted machine gun".
Do I sit there and count the seconds between shots at the range? No, of course not. I double tap figure 11's and IPSC targets, empty the odd mag quickly, practice for the summer service rifle and 3-gun matches and in general enjoy my semi-auto rifles the way they were meant to be enjoyed, safely.
Face it, pal. Whether you like it or not, this is a gun-hostile culture we live in. I don't like it, and neither do you, but it's one one of those things we work to change over time through educating the public and winning our battles one at a time. The pendulum is starting to swing the other way. Maybe not as fast as some would like, not as fast as I would like, but I'm not about to endanger that by acting like an idiot with my legally owned semi-autos to make some "because I can" statement that will bring more bad will than it's worth.

Absolutely. While I didn't really see the big deal with owning one of these, I think everyone should buy one. Just because they're NOT illegal, and we CAN. CBSA can stop the occasional one coming over the border, unfortunately, whether or not it's technically legal for them to do so.

It's unfortunate that most of us are afraid - with good reason! - to exercise all of our firearm rights... and yet CBSA can be used as a tool to stomp all over our rights, whether or not it's legal for them to do so.

I picking up what you're laying down. It's cool.

With the way the RCMP are behaving it wouldn't take much for the them to prohibit these stocks by OIC. Furthermore, this stock is an ITAR item, anyone defying US export regulations endangers the livelihoods of people in the shooting trade in Canada and the sport as a whole as the US state department will quite happily tighten and place further restrictions on exports. I don't think anyone wants that because restrictions are tough enough as they are. So act responsibly!

BTW unlike the US, Canadians don't have any firearms rights so the sooner we understand that the better.

Why are there so many closet antis on this forum bending over to laws that may not even exist?

I bump fire whatever I want.

Call the RCMP if you don't like it.

I'm not an anti that's for sure, but what I do want to ensure is that I get to keep my black rifles. As I said in the post above, the doomsday clock for ARs and other semi-auto long guns in Canada is at 11:59. When the opposition next get into power we will lose the ability to own these if we continue to demonstrate this kind of yahoo behavior. Carry on doing what you like, but don't come crying when it happens.

You really think getting cosied up with the Liberal/NDP/Green party will let you keep your guns?

All gun ownership is "yahoo behaviour" to them.

Don't give them an inch. Don't cater to anything to make them feel more comfortable. That is exactly how we lose rights in the first place.

i use a chunk of broom stick, my ar and semi shotty run nice on it(our range is allmost allways deserted) i still dont want the cops or thier wannabees hearing it!
if they ban wooden mophandles, i may have to fashion one from a tree.......ban those!
thier are too many rednecks/gangsters making the news, that and movies all most canadians see
untill we as a firearm community provide the public with a unending media landslide of positive "gun news" ie. fund raisers and family days, we will see the citizens of this country and the elected representitives take a dim view of fire arms and thier owners.
