I was hoping they'd eventually come out with a SPS Tactical chambered for the .300 Blackout to take advantage of the ground swell of interest in the cartridge. 16.5" factory barrel with a 1:7" twist barrel! :D That'll be good for taking advantage of the real heavy .30 cal. bullets.

I think this introduction is going to sink the Savage Precision Carbine chambered for the Blackout seeing they have a 20" barrel with a suspected 1:10" rate of twist.

Definitely a neat little carbine bolt gun, I wonder if the muzzle thread will give it any trouble for export? Especially seeing as how bolt guns + muzzle brake seems to be so common (not that it would make sense to use a brake on a gun like that, but we don't have to tell the US State department that :p )
 
I love the fact they are 1 in 7. I have been using Sierra 240g Matchkings in my Whispers since the early 90's and man do they shoot !
I wonder how long before they get to dealers?
 
^^^ Hard to say. It was just announced at Shot Show so I might take up to 6 months perhaps. Hopefully, we'll at least have factory brass and some UMC ammo by that point.

The SAAMI spec. is 1:8" twist. AAC, Remington, Bushmaster, DPMS, and others plan to use 1:7" at this point for additional stability as a precaution for +240gr. bullets while shooting subsonic in supressor applications.

Won't mean much to us other than having more flexibility. Being able to use the full spectrum of .30 cal. bullets in one chambering has great appeal. I'm perfectly happy with my 1:8" Shilen barrel and don't feel 1:7" is necessary for my purposes.
 
I know other 700's have det mags. Anybody know if this one does? Looked through the web and Rem's site but I don't see anything on it. Cool toy. Love the simplicity and compactness.
 
I doubt it, the SPS tactical is a swivel plate. We would see the factory Rem detachable mag in the pic and they typically add DM to any model with a mag...
Too bad tho
 
^^^ They won't ship. They were ignorant of their own export laws and Suputin had to find out the hard way as his order was turned back by US Customs.

No joy.
 
Mine and other orders never made it into the mail as they quickly discovered they were breaking the export rules.

However I have recently learned there will be a source of 300 Whisper factory ammo in Canada shortly. I talked to the manufacturer at SHOT and have been assured this will be 220gr subsonic designed to cycle an AR. This will be EU made ammo so no issues with ITAR or US State Department BS.
