CZ 452 Lux - cleaning question

Several years ago I bought a CZ 452 Lux. Shortly thereafter I had a gunsmith lighten the trigger.

This is by far the best and most accurate .22 I've ever had. I've used this a lot and couldn't even estimate how many rounds through it.

One small problem though. The bore seems tighter than any other .22 I've had. Basically a cleaning rod will not fit down this bore. To clean this I've been using a cheap .177 air rifle cleaning kit and just putting two patches over the jag.

I haven't noticed any decrease in accuracy but I have to believe lead is building up.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is it possible to get a .20 calibre cleaning rod that would still have the right threads to take a .22 cal brush or jag? If so where??

You can order directly from Dewey in the US. That's where I got the rod for my CZ 550 (.22-250). The rod come with an adapter that allow you to use Hoppes jags, brush, etc if you don't want to use the Dewey ones.
 
Well if you think you have a lead issue, get your self a copper brush and scrub the bore with it for about 10 strokes or so with some solvent, then patch it clean. FS
 
Good point. I have a Lux and an american. Both have really tight bores. I went to a one-piece rod...that made things much easier. I also use a boresnake every 250 rounds as the rws match ammo I shoot likes a clean bore.
 
When researching for my CZ452 Lux it seems like, as you noticed, the .22 rod is in fact too large for some of the tight CZ barrels. I bought a new .20cal Dewey with jag and it seems tight enough with a single layer of cotton cloth swab. No lead buildup yet but I tend to clean my rifle each weekend after shooting (250 to 400 rounds in a weekend, no use all week).

I've heard that they do have a part that will allow you to use .22 jags with a .20 rod, but I've never seen it.

Also the other problem with a .22 rod is that it can get caught and scratched on the milled ejector in the bolt channel. The .20 seems to miss it with easy (no bore guide yet).

Yup. And if he reeeally wants to spend a few bucks he could take Dewey's recommendation and buy their .20 cal rod and use the 17-A adapter for the CZ's tight bore.
