So iv been reading all over the Red Rifle forums for the last week trying to find an answer to my questions. But what I really can't figure out is does any one make a CZ 858 style rifle that has a shorter then 18.75" barrel that is non restricted?

Wouldn't the CZH2003 VZ58S with a solid stock and the shorter 15" barrel still fall above 26.5" in length? Thus making them Non Restricted? If you put a collapsable stock on them they would be shorter and Restricted...

Or does any one make a shorter Barrel for the 858 non restricted rifles?

I really would like to buy a rifle like the 858 but to me the barrel just looks way to awkwardly long :( and coming in at 36" is a little to long for what I would like.

Any thoughts??
Thanks

Stock doesn't matter if the barrel length is under 18.5 inches and the rifle semi-automatic. Any semi-auto with a barrel length under 18.5 inches is restricted, unless otherwise classified as prohibited.

If you want a non-restriced CZ with a 15 inch barrel, it will have to come from the manufacturer as a non-semi auto firearm. And, that's not gonna happen.

Damn, thanks for the information guys, I forgot the part about it being semiautomatic and was thinking about my 870 and all the other ones that are still non restricted but have 12" barrels.

Thats tobad

Thanks

yes, its really too bad. FWIW the 18.5" bbl looks worse in pictures than it does in person. Its still very noticeably smaller, lighter, better handling and shorter than an SKS and folds to 28.5" without a muzzle attachment. Fondle one at a gun shop, the longer bbl doesnt bother me at all.

I have to agree. The pictures I found on websites selling the gun did it no justice. Here is some with something to gauge its actual size. I am 5'4", and the rifle feels small to me, in a good way though. :D

Thank you for the pictures, sir!

These prove what I, and many people here, have been saying for a long time now. The 858 really doesn't feel as big as it looks in pictures when you're actually holding it, and it doesn't look nearly as goofy in real life. These pictures show it.

That's great! Thanks for the pictures Major, you guys are right they don't look half as bad when some one is actually holding them. This is a question in another direction but is it true that the Czech army actually uses the 858 for general issue?

Get one and you will be happy everytime you shoot it wether you leave it in its wood furniture or tacticool the hell out of it you will always enjoy it. its always the first gun my buddies want to try when i start pulling out my rifles

No problem the guy aiming off to the left in the 3rd pic is my brother and he is even shorter then me (4 year older brother too :D ).

As to the question on their use today. I have read that they (vz-58's) are still used in Czech Rep. but were due for upgrade in the 90's to the upgraded CZ-2000, but that was shelved.

However, this decade, a new proposed weapon to switch to is ČZW-762.

But in 2009 another weapon was put forth as its replacement, and was finally agreed upon. The CZ-805 BREN.

Also, Slovakia (the other half of the country when the VZ-58 was designed and manufactured) uses it as well.

Great weapons update! I wonder if the Bren will ever hit the Canadian market. I do really like the look of that stock! I have to say I'm pretty much sold on an 858, might have to see if any one wants to trade for a magpul norinco Cqa :). Thanks for the info guys!
